News Revolution of the Daleks

Bradley's been good, but Tosin Cole's been so poor that Mrs Relayer (who has been a big Who fan all of her life) now struggles to watch. Can't say I'll be exactly sad to see him go either...

Hopefully Yaz will now get better treatment as a single companion and The Doctor can stop saying bloody 'Fam' incessantly...

While little is known beyond the title, we now do know that Ryan, Graham, and Yaz will return. Chibnall doesn't know when the episode will air but it'll be some time between Christmas and New Year.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall said:

“We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year. (I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you!). There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.”

And microwave ovens too!

I bet this will air on New Year's Day. Why break the new tradition?

I bet the Doctor will escape imprisonment very quickly.

According to tabloids, Tosin is leaving the show. So is Bradley. I'll wait for the official announcement, which might be a few months. Or kept as a secret.

Of course it won't. Chibster just made certain that the first black woman Doctor would never be an event, because she appeared already... as a guest!

:(

If what Chibster was doing is what you were saying they didn't need to find anyone with charisma, just anyone would do no matter how wooden, because the role is a one-off and throwaway. Jo Martin, as well as the audience, got a raw deal.

That's almost a good enough reason to boycott his era. He brings in an actor who's clearly relishing the role and inviting the audience to enjoy her more original performance that much more, better outfit, better dialogue, and it's for nothing more than... what now seems to be nothing more than a token one-off because he's merely trolling his own era the audience?

I dunno. If he's going to bait and switch decent incarnations with bland scripts that make "The Sensorites" and "Four to Doomsday" positively action-packed by comparison then I'm done with the Chibarama era until the next incarnation (even JNT could produce incarnations and story types that were varied... Chibnall couldn't be so one-note surely?) Too much a mixed bag of half-baked ideas and not in the good tasty raw cookie dough way. With luck future showrunners will keep Vinay Patel and a couple other writers.

"Only child". Still a family, and 21st century slang has had many shows and adverts flinging "fam". It can still happen and it'll be just as hackneyed as before.

Good plan. Lets hope it helps the show, and more importantly the character dynamic.

Chibs will probably go 'shipping (Doctor and Yaz), it's corny and trite enough.

The sad thing is, there's been brief moments where Ryan almost worked as a character. Most of The Woman Who Fell to Earth. His talk with Yaz in Rosa. His brief scene bonding with Telsa's "companion". The character could work. He just usually doesn't. I was hoping he'd gel eventually given that Mickey, Rory and Nardole all started out as kinda bland and annoying too (Male NuWho companions, aside from Captain Jack and Graham, are growers not showers), but he never did. I'm not sure if it was the writing, the performance or both, but he was usually either annoying or off puttingly weird (like his moments after banishing the space racist in Rosa or defeating the cybermen in The Timeless Children) rather than endearingly quirky. Looks like a job for Big Finish, I guess.

As for the "fam" thing, I genuinely shed a tear when Thirteen weakly and happily uttered it once reunited with them following her trip down memory lane in the finale.
