Revisiting JAG...

Maybe one of the characters will show up in NCIS in the future.

They already do. The freckled lady JAG lawyer has made several appearances, and Bud has been on at least twice.

Personally, I dream of Bud's wife showing up. She was one of the main reasons I watched the show. :)

I'm pretty sure Labyorteaux only made one (very brief) appearance in season one of NCIS.

And really, since the show pretty much was retooled (and somewhat rebooted with all the retcons) at the start of season two, the show has more or less been in its own verse.

I wouldn't expect any miracle JAG cameos anytime soon.

^ It would be cool though, even if Team Gibbs have to investigate a JAG character's murder! :D

I also see that the show is still showing reruns on HDNet here, though I don't get that channel so I can't tune in.

NCIS is a show I just could never get into. It spun off from JAG, but I could just never get into it.

Really? I think it's easily the better show. Very Special Agent Tony Dinozzo is just too much fun, and, as much as I like JAG, was definitely the kind of character it was missing.

Not to mention that, AFAIK, it was the most popular show on TV for a while. (Not that, that means anything.)

Plus, it's got Pauley Perrette. :techman:

Nope. Never did a thing for me. It also had something of a CSi flavour to it...and I never liked any of the CSi shows.

Rewatching some Season 1 episodes while I wait for Season 8 to be delivered from Amazon I'm reminded how I would have liked Meg Austin to have shown up once or twice in the later seasons as Caitlin Pike did.

Adding a DiNozzo character like that into the core relationships would have made things worse. IMO, the balance of the central relationships in JAG were perfect as they were.

I don't mean as a recurring regular, but as a guest for a story once or twice.

All things need balance. Since Harm wasn't the straight man that Gibbs is a DiNozzo isn't really needed unless they wanted JAG to have more of a comedy feeling like Magnum PI had.

Okay, something seems to have gotten misunderstood or crossed somewhere. I'm talking about Meg Austin doing a once or twice visit sometime during the series. What has that got to do with making the series more comedic?

The thread evolved a DiNozzo character would turn JAG towards the comedic.
Which has nothing to do with what I was suggesting. If they could have Caitlin Pike return once or twice (which they did) then there is no reason Meg Austin couldn't also have visited once or twice. And this has nothing to do with making the show comedic.

Besides which Bud Roberts was already the major comedic component.

Except I never found Bud to be very funny. Pathetically charming, sure. But not funny.

I'm pretty sure the reason Neeham never came back was more of a "behind the scenes" matter.

Well I don't think he was meant to be slapstick, pratfall funny, but merely the one usually caught in awkward moments. It was meant to be amusing rather than bust-a-gut.

Tracey Needham may simply have been unavailable due to conflicting schedules.

One thing I've wondered - the episode that resolved the cliff hanger from the first series (where the character played by Catherine Bell was murdered) - how much was new footage and how much was re-used from the original?

Also before it started airing in Australia in the new shows for the season it was described as a 13-part "maxi series" which I guess was a way of spinning "mid season replacement"?

They did a "fix-it" episode in like season 3 or 4. They used most of the footage from the original, but they retconned it pretty heavily.

The result was pretty obviously not what they had originally intended ... And the resolution was kinda silly.

Oh it's a lot of little things. It's hard to point anything out specific, but if you watch the two episodes back to back, you'll noticed a lot of camera tricks and recuts that were used to make the new story "fit."

Wait, I'm confused. Are you talking about NCIS or JAG? I haven't seen (much of) JAG, and it's been years since I last watched NCIS' Season One finale or Season Two premiere.
