RevdKathy Taking Part in The Race For Life

Seen as Kathy has managed to go over the 150% of goal mark I thought now would be a good time to bump the thread and try and get a push to 200%. As an incentive, get it above 190% and I'll pledge to take it above 200.

Took the liberty to round it up a trifle ;)
Good luck with the run, RevdKaty!
And when the training frustrates you, have a look at Peter Wingfield's blog. He runs a marathon for 'steps to wellness', a sports programme for American cancer patients. His weekly training blog is quite amusing and might cheer you up when you get exhausted with the training: http://pwfc.org/wordpress/
Also, this Twitter comment made me snicker:

Ran 10 miler with UVM team yesterday. All the girls are faster than me now. Should feel worse than I do but being behind them has its perks.
Maybe there'll be a few cute male bottoms in front of you, at your race, too :D

Thank you both. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

No cute males - Race for Life is a women and children only event. Maybe a few male supporters, but they'll belong to other poeple.

I have BobTheSkutter coming to stay next week. I shall make him help me build a cross trainer so I can practice lots and run as much of it as possible.

You guys are just wonderful!

Not really - it's not a massive distance. Something I've wanted to do for years and finally getting around to it. And the training is doing wonders for the shape of my backside, so it's all win. (Theoretically hit my first weight target today, too!)

Cancer in its many forms is so widespread it touches almost everyone somewhere. I wondered about carrying a 'voodoo tumour' in memory. (Mods and former mods will get the reference ;) ) I just want to do a bit to help beat it.

Hmm, I should take up marathon running as well, perhaps. Whenever I lose a few lbs they come back within a few weeks and bring friends... :D

Well the event is only a couple of days away, and the total has reached £305, any last minute donations to get me to say I'll round to £350 or £400 now? ;) :D

RevdKathy said she'll be along to post later this evening but at the minute she's in a dentist waiting room. So in the mean time asked me to post the blog entry she made this morning.

WhooHoo!

I don’t often blog except when I’m on holiday but this is a bit special.
I want to write and thank everyone involved in the Penzance RaceForLife, and all my sponsors.

When I entered, I didn’t expect to raise much money. Doing it was more about doing something to make a small gesture against something that I’ve seen destroy so many precious lives. So, so many wonderful people I’ve walked with in all my years of ministry. Some have beaten cancer, many I’ve had the sad privilege of conducting a final service for.

So I wanted to do my little bit.
I was anxious about the event. I know I can walk the distance but had set myself a goal of going a little faster. And then there was through whole business of getting there etc.

It was a perfect evening. The sun shone, but it wasn’t too hot. The crowds cheered, the organisation was beautifully done and it went like a dream. Even my ankles held out! A special thank you to PenSamba who gave us the impetus to keep going at the half way point. And to Ellie who got up from her bed of pain to cheer at the finish line!
And a massive Thank You to all my sponsors. I thought I’d been ambitious aiming for £100. My total today stands at £360, which is nothing short of Awesome. And most of that has come from friends online - twitter and TrekBBS especially. So thank You to You! You are the real stars.

Thanks to BobTheSkutter for copying my blog post in here (and not even correcting the typo caused by Otto Korrect on my phone!)

I did the walk fairly quickly - reckon I jogged about a third of it, and made a very respectable time for my little short legs. There are enough people round here who can testify I have very little short.. well, everything. It was great fun.

The Penzance walk has the advantage of being flat (almost completely). It walks along the seafront, so apart from a point where the road rises, it's flat. And they had a Samba band in the park where we circled round to walk back - great for morale!

The best bit of morale for me though was someone who had been in bed for 5 days with a chest infection turning up to yell "Go Kathy!" as I rounded the home straight! People are brilliant!

I was surprised how well organised it was - and the money is actually still trickling in. The total stands at £365 now. Most of that is from online donations - and quite a chunk from TrekBBS. So THANK YOU ALL!
