Return date for stargate universe?

I was wondering, whats the return date for Stargate Universe.. i need more sci fi on fridays.

They've bought s1-2 of Merlin...while NBC ran s1 last summer, they could've debuted s1 in January paired with Caprica, leading into the US premiere of s2 in April. But nope, s1's 13 eps will be marathoned on Sunday before April 2.

Wow, tv in the US is a joke.

it's certainly not like your television.... but then... we dont have to buy licenses to have a tv operating in our home...

if we did.... we'd probably get better television also...

by the way.... send me more of those cop and medic shows I love those british episodes....

"Some reason" being to stagger their tentpole original programming so they have big-ticket stuff going on all year around, instead of having it concentrated on four months of sci-fi friday.

Which leads to watered-down nights of programming, long hiatuses, annoying half season box sets, and lower ratings. Why is SyFy so intent on battling network television these days? They watched Battlestar Galactica and the Stargate franchise take a big hit when they put it up against network programming. Or is this all part of their secret plan to program the channel only with 'original' movies by the Asylum, ECW, and Ghost Hunters?

1. They're putting out this box set, which is stupid... but whatever. Maybe it will attract new viewers (slim chance).

2. There are 52 weeks in a year. Hardly any other show on television (besides Lost, if we're lucky), airs everything back to back. I would rather have two uninterrupted sets of SGU than having to check TVGuide every week to see if it's on. Two episodes followed by a week break, then three more episodes followed by a month off gets annoying really quickly.

3. Hardly anybody is airing new programming during the Olympics. All the networks are scared to death this is going to get huge ratings for some reason.

 SGU did not follow that kind of pattern at all. The ten episodes pretty much aired every consecutive week. They took a week off for Thanksgiving, but that was it.

Exactly, but other shows on other networks do follow that pattern. It's all about stretching 20-episode seasons for 52 week year.s

Yeah... I said I liked to see blocks of episodes rather than having to guess what week it's going to be on (CSI, etc.)

What happened to just putting out a freaking season? Is this just a function of limited cable network budgets?

They're trying to streach their 'new' programming out over an entire year (ie 52 week year, not season); so they don't end up with nothing but repeats for weeks at a time (as their 1st run show ratings are honestly dismal enough). All cable outlets now employ a similar strategy.

Seeing the box set commercial (or the DVD, however it works) and hearing (or reading rather) my friends talking about it is why I finally decided to check this show out. I kick myself in the ass for not watching this sooner (the same goes for BSG, Angel, Buffy, Blah blah blah)

For your second point...amen, this happened to Dollhouse, the hiatus' it kept going on was insane. Sure the series had low ratings to begin with, but it'd air an episode or two, go on a break, come back for a three episode run, go on a break, gah. As for what airs consistently? I honestly have no other idea, would 24 count? They wait until January before airing it to supposedly keep on airing them in a reasonable schedule. I don't really know of anything else, though...

I don't know if they're 'scared to death' but (I certainly haven't read any comparable ratings), I wouldn't air anything new either. I mean, yeah it sucks for us the viewer, but why take the chance the show will tank during this time, and end up canceled? If it does anyway, then you know people thing the show sucks, but if it does so during the Olympics, there'd always be that "what if" doubt.

That's exactly his point, that he'd rather SGU air in ten episode blocks, so long as it's consistent. None of this one or two episodes, then a month off for whatever reason, then back for a couple more episodes only to go on yet another hiatus for another oddball reason. This way things are a tad bit more consistent. Even if we hate it, I can see the logic behind it, break it up so that there's programing ('new' programing) for several months out of the year instead of a few, and set it up so the show airs consistently, not randomly (like Dollhouse did)
