Retro villains you'd like to see?

I'd be all for some Borg action. One of the few memorable things about the spinoffs. For me.

As I said in another thread, I thought a story in which we (the audience) see and experience Romulans. But (to be consistent with TOS: BoT), the Discovery does not have contact with them.

The story could revolve around the Romulans attacking/destroying a Federation outpost and leaving no survivors, and the Discovery attempting to aid them (possible responding to a distress call from the oupost prior to it being destroyed). As part of the episode, we (the audience) might be given a look at the reasoning and motivations behind the Romulans doing what they did.

In some ways, it would be much like parts of Balance of Terror in which we (the audience) saw the events of the episode unfold from the viewpoint of the Enterprise crew AND from the viewpoint of the Romulans. But in this case, there would be no contact between the Discovery and Romulans.

It could, in some ways, be a prelude to Balance of Terror.

I want to agree with you but first contact really jumped the shark on them, and voyager neutered them pretty good, it'd be hard to take them seriously.

There was that V'ger borg theory that I thought could be interesting though, but any encounter with V'ger would make zero sense..

I wonder if we might see some Xindi again. I would love an Enterprise reference here or there.

I thought they used them pretty effectively on Enterprise.

I'm glad you did, and would never hark on someone for finding something entertaining. I truly wish that I did, and I'd even say you're probably right and I'm probably wrong.

But my eyes were rolling so hard in that episode I thought I was going to be staring at my skull for the rest of my life.

the story telling, in trek as a whole IMO was better served with Picard and crew's encounter with the Borg being the first, and the only first.

With all of Trek's temporal shenanigans, it still is. Q had to throw the Enterprise those seven thousand light years to get the ball rolling.

Yeah you're right,

It does feel like retelling the first contact with the Borg, and it just bugs me.

so far, I don't have a lot of faith in the writers desire, or ability to write around such a thing eloquently.

i think the preservers are obscure enough and rife for story potential. they're not necessarily villainous, but they could still be an obstacle and i'm all for conflict without violence in star trek.

they also have a cool name.

Just think of them as separate timelines, a multiverse. I started doing it a long time ago. What happened on Enterprise and later with the Raven on Voyager were simply a timeline where things evolved slightly differently. Thanks to the events of First Contact. But that timeline can't exist without Picard first meeting the Borg in "Q, Who?"

I'd love to see some race of Xindi and Denobulans. We might see some cameos of Tellurites, Vulcans and filthy Andorians since T'Kuvma mentioned them. But honestly it doesn't matter as long as there is a good story. I'd also like to see some changelings as according to DS9, the Dominion has existed for thousands of years.

Would like to see Cardassians or even the Ferengi, the Romulans would be cool as well.

Not the Xindi though they were boring enough on Enterprise.

Could see the Borg again but its been done to death so I cant see the point.

I like the idea of Denobulans. Maybe Discovery might address why we never hear about them again.

Heck, a more interesting show would've been a Starfleet vessel stuck on the far side of Romulan territory trying to get home. You could have all the interactions you wanted with the Romulans, then just blow the ship before they get back to Federation territory. It would be more interesting than Klingons with marbles in their mouths blathering about honor.

Not sure how I feel about a show where you know the crew’s final fate.

As long as you don't make the huge mistake of calling it Prime, their fate can be anything the writers like. But, even knowing their fate, I would be far more receptive to it, than what we've gotten so far with Discovery.

I mean, we all knew Georgiou was toast.

You're right but that just smells of lazy writing to me.

But hey, good story is good story.
