I hate that episode. I'll put it in my top five worst Ds9 episodes and my top 10 worst star trek episodes ever.

It's a fun episode. Cool things:

*Quark and Rom carrying the cloaking device was brilliant
*Rom's line "Who's President of the Federation? Morn?"
*Rom pointing out the two O'Briens are similar and that the MU isn't that alternate
*Quark's prayer to the Blessed Exchequer.
*Mirror Ezri and Leeta.
*Mirror Brunt
*Mirror Vic Fontaine. He's real. Somehow.
*Quark comparing the MU Garak unfavorably with "our" Garak
*Regent Worf tearing his chair out of its base

The bad:
*Intendant Kira probably should have died; she did kill Brunt.
*The reuse of the battle sequence from "Shattered Mirror"

Quark is a very good character but I can't stand Rom. He's so annoying. One of the most terrible things they did was his interaction with Leeta, a character even worse than him, if that was possible.

It was definatly one of the weaker MU episodes, as for cloaking devices, we had already seen them used in an earlier MU episode so why did they need one? Just one of those plot holes we are expected to overlook.

The ships decloaking in "Through the Looking Glass" is such a short FX scene, its not a big deal that the writers forgot.

^But it's still a plot hole, when all you had to do was change a line or two of dialouge and say "instead of them not having them" to "That due to the Defiant the Terrans are now able to see through the Alliance cloaks and they need the more advanced ones from our universe" or something along those lines.

I don't get the hate for this one. It's pretty funny, and while it may be a weak MU episode, it's one of the best Ferengi-centered ones.

But they forgot. Completely.

Not many people seem to like this episode, but I actually did. Of course, there's the continuity issue of the Alliance already having cloaking tech since they had ships with the ability in "Through the Looking Glass", but that could easily be worked around. They key contributing factor was that unlike what we saw in TOS's "The Enterprise Incident", in the savage universe, there was no Klingon/Romulan alliance in the 23rd century. It was most likely around the time the rebellion started that the Cardassians and Klingons began developing their own cloaking tech which wasn't really that sophisticated at the time. Once Smiley built their Defiant, he was able to modify the sensors to much better detect cloaked ships. A quick tie-in to the weapons array, and the majority of enemy ships could be destroyed with just one shot to a vulnerable area (like what was seen in ST: Generations). As a result, the Alliance was force to scrap the cloak until they could better develop (or in this case, steal) it.

The reviewer does seem to oversensationalize the potential lesbianism here. I would have preferred it if the evil Kira finally paid the price for her crimes (at least the alternate Garak does). Sometimes I wonder if she hooked up with the alternate Gul Dukat and then killed him to get her post on Terok Nor. Unlike our Kira, she would resort to that, or any tactic, to get what she wants even if it was beneath her. And with any Dukat, he's as beneath as they come.

It's my favorite of the DS9 Mirror Universe episodes because it doesn't try to be deep and profound, and instead plays the whole thing for laughs.

Mirror Ezri: I'm trying to save your lives.
Zek: That's a very worthy goal!
