Resistance 3 Officially Announced

Insomniac Games has announced that it's working on the long rumored Resistance 3 for PlayStation 3.

The shooter was unveiled by way of a quick teaser trailer during the closing moments of Sony's GamesCom press conference this evening.

Although brief, the footage depicted a battle-ravaged, Western-style landscape before erupting in to a blazing gun fight with invading Chimera as civilians nervously looked on. No release date for the project was given.

Looking forward to seeing where they go with this one, after the way the second one ended. Enjoyed the first two games, so this'll likely be a day one purchase for me.

I kinda had a hard time getting into the first Resistance. I'm still not sure if it was because of the game itself or if it's just because I really don't like using the PS3 controller for shooters.

I might have to give it another try one of these days.

I had the same problem with the Resistance games as well. Shooters with the PS3 controller feels completely unnatural to me.

Here is the announcement trailer...

Wow. That's a cool fuckin trailer.

The first one was alright, didn't play the second one.

After all these years I'm a bit burnt out on FPS games, especially a series like Resistance which always kind of played second fiddle to Gears of War. It's probably the best PS3 exclusive shooter series, but it's not as good, IMO, as MW2, COD4, or Bioshock.

I plan to buy Halo: Reach if the reviews are stellar, that will probably be the last FPS game I play this generation.

The second Killzone was good, the first one was a piece of shit that drags the series' average down, IMO. It was a sloppy mess.

I never understood the grief that Killzone gets. I found it to be a pretty enjoyable game, didn't find it overly buggy or frustrating. The story was engaging enough, and I enjoyed playing as the different characters. I thought it was one of the better FPS games I played on the PS2.

Killzone 2 was an excellent game, the only thing I didn't like about it was that they turned Rico into a colossal dick, and he was practically useless in the final fight against Radec.

I couldn't even get through the first level of Killzone, buggy piece of crap that it was :borg: I did feel that the story had potential but between the over saturation of the FPS market and the fact that there are better games in the genre out there, I have little desire to continue with the other games.

What bugs? People keep calling it "buggy", but then never explain what they mean. I don't recall encountering any problems with the game being buggy.

Occasional crashing, getting stuck in walls sometimes. Floating in the air on occasion.

Servo, you and I must have magic copies of that game or something. I've played through that game like 3 times and never noticed any glitches. Definitely never had any crashes or got stuck in any architecture.:)

The only problem I have with the Killzone games is the enemies are too hardy IMHO. I mean it seems like I've unloaded entire clips into basic grunts at times and they still keep coming at me.

I can't say I ever had any major problems with bugs on KZ1, and I don't recall any instances where I got stuck in a wall, or the game crashed.

It's entirely possible that these bugs may have happened on one or two occasions, and I just forgot about it, but it definitely didn't happen with any kind of regularity, and certainly not enough to ruin the game, or even be memorable.

Some new info has come to light...

-Protagonist Joseph Capelli has started a family with Susan, the stepsister of former hero Nathan Hale.
-Malikov is alive.
-The weapon wheel is back
-A two-player cooperative campaign will be present, with Capelli, Malikov and John Harper being the key characters.
-Players will be able to battle in an African Prison as part of one of the game’s multiplayer maps.
-Chimeran plant life explodes when shot, which is representative of the fact the world is undergoing drastic changes.
-Enemies will boast enhanced AI, while Capelli will be able to climb over walls and through windows, etc.
-A new weapon has been confirmed called The Mutator. Its primary function is to shoot a biological mist that causes boils to appear on foes, which can then pop and harm nearby Chimera. Players can also use it to make their enemies turn against each other.
-Returning weapons include the Magnum, Shotgun, Bullseye, Auger and Carbine. They’re also upgradable the more you use them, with other weaponry such as grenades sporting a more improvised look to them.
-A vaccine exists that may be able to cure the Chimeran virus
-Insomniac is keen to improve upon the online component and make it more organised in comparison to Resistance 2’s 60-player matches.
-Finally, surviving humans are turning to acts of cannibalism due to the lack of available food.
