Resistance 2

Turd Ferguson

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Well, I was a late-comer, but I just finished Resistance: Fall of Man over the course of about four days. That game kicked ass.

So, I went out today and bought Resistance 2. Wow. Just some of the pics from the back of the case look sweet. From the giant Chimeran to the gigantic alien standing in front of the blown-out farmhouse. I can not wait to put this thing in my PS3 and give it a try.

In fact, I may do that right now :)

Anybody else pick this one up?

I picked this one up this week but really haven't had a chance to play it more than just a couple of checkpoints, so I can't really comment too much about it. However, I noticed one change that I didn't like. Instead of being able to carry all the weapons you encounter, you can only carry two at a time.

I really hate that, because I feel like I spend half the game second guessing everytime I trade (or don't trade) a weapon for another. I think it's more fun having all the weapons at your disposal.

I did play the beta of the cooperative online game for a few days. It seemed like the aliens were EXTREMELY difficult to kill and at times, the levels become more of a chore than fun.

The 2 weapon thing is probably just to give people more of a challenge.... but I agree with ya, I'd rather have access to all of em.

The co-op, from what I hear is done on difficulty settings? I saw some guys mention in some forums that on a hard difficulty you all needed to be extremely good players to take on the swarms of chimera running at you... but I dont know since R2 doesn't come out in the Uk for 2 more weeks or so...

If anyone else gets this, could you let me know how it is? Everyone is raving about it on the ps3forums. The online 8-player co-op sounds great fun!

Well I know the two weapon thing is becoming the standard more and more in FPS, but I just think it's a shame that you get all these different weapons to use, and some of them you may never really use simply because you can't give up the slot for it.

I wondered about a variable difficulty setting in the online co-op game. I never did see anything about a setting, maybe it defaulted to hard in the beta or something. Whatever it was, it almost turned me off from getting the game. As I've made mention many times in forums like this, I suck and I know I suck, and when they make a game really hard without an easier alternative, it turns me off pretty quickly.

I, too, picked up "Resistance 2: America Forever Lost" after buying "Resistance: The Fall of Man" and thoroughly enjoying (and beating) it on *all* of its difficulty levels.

So far, R2 has been pretty pleasing. While it's true that the two-weapon limit takes some getting used to (as well as how Nathan Hale [your character] sustains damage), I haven't had a horrible time killing the Chimera. Each weapon seems to have fewer bullets, but each bullet seems to do more damage, too.

All that said, I'll have to get back to this thread once I'm farther into R2. Right now, I'm battling through the war-blasted ruins of San Francisco, circa 1953.

Gatekeeper

P.S. Oh, and the visuals are absolutely gorgeous!

Hasn't come out here yet, but I loved the beta so I'll be picking this and Mirror's Edge up shortly.

I'll be picking this one up for X-mas, but first I'm going to have to play the first one again as I've not done so on my HDTV yet. On the two gun limit, I'm no too fussed. The game will be designed with this in mind so it shouldn't be an issue. Part of me also likes it, in every game I play I always have "hoarder's syndrome". I never use any of the expensive or fancy items/ammo incase I need them later. Like in Final Fantasy, I never use the Elixirs or what not until the final boss, and even then I don't need to use many.

My copy was delivered on release day, but I wanted to at least finish Fallout 3 before playing Resistance 2. I'm on the forest level right now. So far, I'm liking it a bit more than the first game, and I enjoyed that one quite a bit. I'm really liking the variety of colors this time around. While I thought the first game looked good, there was a bit too much gray, brown, and pea green. The game looks good overall, except for some textures here and there. Especially at the base in San Francisco level when you go outside to see all of the Chimera ships in the sky, and the burning city in the distance.

The huge enemies you fight are pretty cool, so far. Even though I was already planning to get the game, I couldn't wait for it after reading about how massive some of them get.

EDIT - I found the two weapon limit slightly annoying, as well. I can understand that the intent is to not let you walk around with an entire arsenal, but it would nice to at least an additional weapon of a different class. The health regeneration also seemed a bit unnecessary. Not that I like having to hunt down health packs. But the system of the first game was a hybrid of the two and worked pretty well.

Forgot to mention some weird physics glitches I've encountered in the game so far. Weapons that get dropped bounce around or stand on one end and spin around. There was also a car that was moved when another next to it blew up. The doors opened and closed repeatedly, banging on other cars next to it.
