Resident Evil 6

Looks like this article is a couple weeks old now, but some news/speculation on RE6.

Personally, I'm hoping the new one will merge the best of RE4 with classic RE. And totally revamp and do right the multi-player experience of RE5.

  • I want zombies and monsters back.
  • I want 1st person shooter style rather than the clumsy 3rd person controls. While difficult, I think it could still be survival horror and still give us the freedom of movement that FPS has, complete with jumping, crouching, and aim anywhere shooting.
  • I want to be able to play alone (i.e. without a computer controlled ally) OR with another human player.
  • I liked the brief case concept from RE4 and the drop it on the floor concept of RE0. I don't want to drop things and have them disappear forever, nor do I want back the old magical item boxes.

What are your thoughts on the possibilities of RE6?

I'd be fine with a new game that was a slight update on the RE4 style gameplay, with similar length and story. Which is to say, everything RE5 was not.

The only thing I terribly want to see DIAF are QTE.

I liked RE 5 but I would want a more side co-op thing to make single player less restricted. I also want a return to more stuff occuring at night to get that horror feel and also a mix of zombies slow n fast and the new enemies.

I don't like the idea of a first-person shooter viewpoint. It wouldn't be survival horror then; it would be a first-person shooter game with slightly scarier enemies than Nazis or terrorists or aliens. I'm fine with crouching; jumping just seems pointless, and almost always is, even in more traditional first-person shooters.

Plus, how were the third-person controls from RE4 "clumsy"? It's not like in the classic RE's, where you had to figure out which way was right and left relative to your character for every new camera angle. You saw everything that you needed to see, and if you didn't you were perfectly capable of looking around. Also, the RE4 controls already DID allow for aim-anywhere shooting. You could look straight up, straight down, and turn 360 degrees, and you could quickly do 90-degree turns by using the camera buttons and then drawing your gun. It doesn't get much more aim-anywhere than that.

I would agree, though, that cooperative play should be optional. It's a lot easier to be scared when you're alone.

A first person shooter would be an interesting change in the series.

I can only hope Capcom have learned from their mistakes after creating Survivor and Dead Aim. :barf:

And while we're on the topic, I'd really like to see a revamp of the second and third games like the did with the REmake and Zero. Maybe for the Wii? Then again, the Wii seems to be approaching its' death from Nintendo's new console... Or even better, they could create Outbreak: File 3 for 360/PS3 considering online gaming is the norm now.

Edit: Apparently they are creating a new Outbreak game called Resident Evil Outbreak Survive for a Japanese social network called GREE.

I find all 3rd Person games that are primarily shooters to be clumsy. Shooting and aiming from the 3rd person is awkward to me. I can use 3rd person for sword fighting like RPGs and such but not for shooting.
