SyFy does have a pretty bad habit of ending shows in the third season these days. Indeed, I was already prepared to treat season 3 of Resident Alien as the final season. With this news, I'm of the opinion it's all but been confirmed.
Which will be a shame. This is a great show which could have a few more years in it. But I'll be thankful for what we got all the same.

I did not realize until today that the season was split in two parts! when the first part ended and there was no new episodes I thought season 2 was over. Now off to binge the second half of the season!
I just finished the last episode of season 2. I just want to say "what a great show"! The characters are all good. The humor is just perfect! I love everything with what Harry says and does. It would be terrible if they cancel the show.

Mork and Mindy was on when I was in the USN, and I didn't have the opportunity to watch much TV during those years. I wasn't much of a fan of ALF. None of them were as good as Resident Alien IMO, but Third Rock From the Sun comes a close second.
I just want to point out that those are all sitcoms, so they don't really have the same tone or style as Resident Alien, if that's what you're after. Eureka and Warehouse 13, which also aired on Syfy in the US, would be the first shows that come to mind for me as matching the kind of dramady, action tone and style of Resident Alien.
In terms of tone and the quirky small town setting, I think Pickett Fences is a decent match with Resident Alien.
"Twin Peaks" would be another with a quirky small town setting.

I loved Northern Exposure. I guy I knew from Alaska said his small town was just like it.

John Corbett has resurfaced on Sex and the City, so I said "Northern Exposure" and the wife looked at me like I was crazy. No such animal has ever existed.

Only months ago, John was almost Kim Katrall's dad on How I met your Father, but they went with an Agent of SHIELD instead.

If anyone is still interested in this show, it's coming back on Valentines Day.
