Report: Supernatural and Smallville both renewed

Smallville got renewed... again?!

Jesus!

Remember in "Dead Like Me" when Rube told George that if she didn't reap the souls from people and allowed them to live that soul will wither and die and twist the person for their life?

That's what Smallville is. A show they won't reap so the soul and essence of the show is just twisting and dying.

The only way they can make it worthwhile is to just bite the bullet, set Welling down and get his ass in order and bring on Superman.

 I still can't believe that Welling beat out Ackles for the part. To this day, I can't. Ackles came out of the deal with the better character to play (god bless Ben Edlund's storyline decisions) but it's still hard to believe.

Smallville's renewal doesn't surprise me at all. For one, the audience is still there enough. But probably more importantly, CW Execs saw an opportunity to be the network to have the longest running North American sci-fi show, which allows the CW some bragging rights.

Also, from what I hear, DC Comics loves the show. I am sure they have no problems having it go on. It brings income to them as well as keeping a live action Superman property around since the progress of a new movie seems currently dead in water.

If they stopped trying to shoe horn the boring ideas, a movie might take off and do well. From what I can see, the recent hero movies, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, etc... did alright because the heroes had a true threat to combat. What kind of a threat is it when Superman spends the movie trying to battle a bank robber or something? Have Doomsday, or a Kryptonian, something from the comics or animated series that actually were capable of delivering a pounding to the man.

Well from a financial side it makes sense. Both shows perform stronger then anything else the CW has off network (DVD sales typically three to 5 times higher then the next highest series on the CW, and overseas sales higher then the others. Both have been stripped to earn even more.

While Smallville should be earning far less from its broadcast (primarily one would assume from it's move to Friday), SN has shown ratings growth (in the area the CW is concerned with adults 18-34 and even more specifically women 18-34, but it also is really close to its adult 18-49 performance last season (the only network scripted show to show growth in either viewers or demos every episode last year).

On a story front, I don't even want to talk about Smallville......While they have managed some good episodes, it doesn't change that most of the episodes are crap, with unbelievable character and plot points.

With SN, while I don't think this season is as strong as its stellar 4th season, I still like it better then seasons 2 or 3 (1st season isn't even close). And I hope, hope that with next year we actually get to see the characters have a real chance to deal with the huge amount of baggage they have. They started the end of times, and they won't truly begin to beable to cope with that until they see what damage they have done (and that just the latest emotional scarring they have to deal with). SO key word is, hope. I hope they play to the strengths of the characters and the actors in a more stand alone way.

Smallville is apparently going to run longer than The Simpsons. Yet I don't know a single person who watches it. I saw the first season and it was decent, but nothing to rock 37 seasons out of.

I agree. Regardless of end quality, it shouldn't be this hard to make a Superman movie. I'd argue that he is probably the most popular, or at least most well known, superhero (your mileage may vary). You'd think the studio would fast-track something if they get a director/screenwriter interested.

In any case, the fact remains that it's currently not moving forward whereas Smallville is.

It seems Smallville is kicking into high gear, I think the Zod/Kandorian thing is a boring, but with JSA on the way, Martha coming back & Perry White returning...I think they are setting up a awesome 10th season...hopefully.

I still want to see Clark wear The \S/uit & I think there is a good arc to be had in the 10th season for more L*.

Incase you didn't know L*= Legion Of Superheroes.

I say bring on Imperiex & Superman-X

I had a feeling Smallville would be extended for a tenth season last year when I read that Welling had been contracted for it.

What else is he going to do?
With his kind of talent, he probably has lots of offers, but he feels obligated to see Smallville through to the end.

Has talent? He's well past his "prime" for modeling, so are they making another "Cheaper by the Dozen" movie?

I can't wait till they have the James Earl Jones guest spot on Smallville! Who would have thought that he is Clark's real father?
