Website CinemaSpy is reporting exclusively that Supernatural and Smallville will both be renewed for their 6th and 10th seasons respectively.

First it was Smallville, now Supernatural. A couple of days ago we reported that Smallville had been picked up for a tenth season. Industry sources in Vancouver provided CinemaSpy with the tip, indicating that while the official announcement has not yet been made, behind-the-scenes it’s all but a done-deal. Today we’ve been informed that Supernatural, too, has been confirmed with another season, in this case its sixth.

Fans of The CW series Smallville take note: industry sources inform CinemaSpy that the show has been renewed for a tenth season, and that the official announcement is probable before the end of January — possibly to be made on the Vancouver sets — when Peter Roth, President of Warner Bros. Television will visit the Warner-produced shows Smallville, Supernatural...and Fringe.
YAY for Supernatural! Although I hope it doesn't fall into mediocrity after the original 5 year plan.

Meh for Smallville...

Aw, crap. I hope this means Kripke is sticking around and has thought of a good idea for a sixth season.

Smallville: The mindless crap storm keep on going.

Supernatural: Let's hope that they'll make Season Six worthwhile after the apocalyptic Season Five.

Smallville is an example of a show that CW is keeping around long, long past its expiration date. That show hasn't been good for years.

I also don't think SN should be renewed either. 5 years is about right for any series these days. Rarely does any show maintain the quality during its heydays of its first few years and in my opinion this season's hit-or-miss quality--more miss than hit--really serves to show the series is getting a little long in the tooth and another season of mostly rehashed monster of the week stories is not something I'm really interested in.

If kripke, ackles and padalecki opted not to do a sixth if they were only contracted for five seasons, but the network wanted another one are they forced to do so? Would it be breach if they were to walk?

So how do you top defeating Satan? In season six Dean and Sam go after the Red-Blue Blur?

Ackles and Padalecki are contracted for a sixth season, Kripke was only contracted for five. Kripke didn't want to continue after five, but I think there was a rumor recently that he was "warming up" to the idea of a sixth season. If he didn't want to do a fifth season but the CW did, he could walk and there wouldn't have been any problems, since his contract was only for five years. Ackles and Padalecki, however, would have been stuck.

The other two Big Bads thus far, Azazel and Lilith, both lasted for two seasons (1-2 for Azazel and 3-4 for Lilith), so they could always extend Lucifer's tenure.

He's not going to extend the Lucifer arc. He's on record about that. He doesn't want it diluted and they really don't have the budget. Literally. Ostroff may be heaping the praise this season, but she's still cut their budget every single year in favor of the slutty teen shows.

Season six will definitely be the last. Padalecki and Ackles are firm on that, and I'm glad. I'm worried about the quality of a season six, but I'm hoping Kripke can pull it off. He's realistic, says he plans to go small and "intimate." Maybe some light season arc about their family's past. Seems to me that's the only way to go, but we'll see. It's renewed. I love it, but don't want it to turn into Smallville. I'm glad the two stars' contracts are up after six. They both actually have the talent to find other work, so that's going to be that.

It would be nice if S6 of Supernatural was kind of fast-forward through their lives. Showing how they deal with the after effects of fighting Lucifer, what becomes of them etc... Maybe every couple episodes you're jumping forward a year or two seeing key events, having your typical goofy/spoof episodes.

well after Lucifer, there are still the rogue angels like zachariah to go up against, i guess depending on how the rest of this season goes down.

What on Earth is another season of Smallville going to deal with? How can he still not be Superman? That would end in spring of 2012. Welling will be turning 35 that April. He's only a year older than Ackles, but Dean Winchester is allowed to get older and progress on screen. They've made mention of him being 30 years old. Clark's frozen in time and space.

with the talk of Martha & Perry returning to Smallville, I am forced to conclude that whilst this Clark may work for the Daily Planet, and use his abilities to help people, he will never become Superman.

I have to wonder why DC Comics are allowing this to happen, is the Smallville Clark Kent really what they want a generation of kids to call their Superman?

I stopped watching SMALLVILLE after season three...and only started watching when I heard about the big JSA episode coming up...the show is actually, I think, pretty good. This dude they have playing Zod is a great actor, and I am liking lois the more I see her...so glad that Lana is gone. She was eye candy, but as for acting? Not so good..

So...I am back on the smallville bandwagon after a seven year delay...
