It require an age verification thing, but you can lie on it.

Holy crap! I had no idea this movie was coming out, let alone the subject matter!

Wow, did Obama's healthcare reform go that badly?

Re: Repo Men redband trailer (Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Schreib

How is it different from Repo! The Genetic Opera?

Less singing... No Paris Hilton.

Re: Repo Men redband trailer (Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Schreib

Hahaha, this the core story of 'The Merchant of Venice' taken to a whoöe new level. Looks pretty bloody. I hate it when they give away all of the story in the trailer, though.

Re: Repo Men redband trailer (Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Schreib

Well it's an okay topic for yet another disposable, forgettable action flick I guess. I'm glad they gave away the whole freakin' movie on the trailer (dontcha love that? :rommie:) to alert me not to bother with this due to a crippling problem in the premise, namely that the Jude Law character is a big fat honkin' hypocrite for being willing to benefit from this system till, oh no, his own life depends on it and suddenly he changes his mind. Screw that. You made your bed, buddy, lie in it. If I saw this movie, I'd spend the second half rooting for Liev Schreiber and the eeevil corporation.

If someone with a wilder imagination took it on, you could get a very interesting TV series premise from the notion of a society where it's perfectly normal for everyone to be Frankensteinian conglomerations of spare parts, produced and mortgaged by corporations. ;) If you kept going with it, at what point would these people not even be human anymore? And if that were normal - would anybody care?

Looks like a cross between LOGAN'S RUN and a bit from MONTY PYTHON AND THE MEANING OF LIFE. Could be fun.

Re: Repo Men redband trailer (Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Schreib

While I tend not to mind violence, judging by the trailer, it seems a little too gory for me.

Here is my question about the premise: These guys basically take back various organs when the receivers do not pay on time. How come they have to, seemingly, brutally attack the person in order to get the organ back? I get that the person may run, but can't they simply taser or stun them, and bring them back to the medical facility to properly remove it? Again, judging purely by the trailer, it seems they outright murder the person in order to get something back (true, the person would probably die anyway, but popping them in the head to get back a lung would seem like it would open a whole new set of litigation). Maybe it is explained in the movie.

So, this isn't a sequel or remake of Repo Man, then?

Re: Repo Men redband trailer (Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Schreib

Alternate titles that were considered:

Minority Repo
Repolibrium
Logan's Repo

The man who believes wholeheartedly in the system and is its greatest warrior finds himself the victim of said system and must singlehandedly take it down, generally whilst being pursued by his former partner and while somehow finding time to start or rekindle a romance.

The system appeared nigh unstoppable before he left it, and all of its agents should conceivably have received similar training, but it's ultimately revealed to be made up largely of incompetents who our now hero (all is forgiven because you don't want to suffer like you've made so many others suffer) burns through as if they were an army of marshmallows.

Oh, and the less said about how it's the exact plot of 'Repo! The Genetic Opera' the better.

Re: Repo Men redband trailer (Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Schreib

The idea of the enforcer who rebels against the dystopian government he once served is pretty much a standard scifi plot.

See also "Fahrenheit 451."

The advantage of this conceit is that it allows the author to depict the workings of the Evil Society from the inside before turning the protagonist into a rebel. It's also just more dramatic to have the "fireman" (or Sandman or repo man or whatever) turn on the system rather than some random citizen.

Re: Repo Men redband trailer (Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker, Liev Schreib

It still irks me that we see all of these knock-offs but we still haven't seen a true adaptation of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. I fear even if one day we do see a faithful adaptation of the book, it'll feel tired and old by the time we do.

Well, I love Francois Truffaut's film. I doubt even a more faithful adaption would really top it, but I might be wrong there.

Any Evil Corporation worth its salt should know to design the organs like an On*Star System so that they are remote controlled. If somebody doesn't pay, you just shut down or self-destruct the organ via nano tech which you embed in the organ from the start.

Yet another inane sci fi premise that hasn't been adequately thought through. ;)

Ah, but I'm assuming they want resell the organ, so causing it to self-destruct would miss the point.

After all, in real life, repo men don't blow up your car if you miss a payment!
