Have you ever gone and dug out some of your old games and played them through to see how they match up to today's ones?
I did this recently... well, I played some old ROMs to see if they actually had any entertainment value left. Unsurprisingly, Super Mario World and the Sonic series still were quite playable, and Final Fantasy III/VI had to be put off before it sucked me in again (it's the best FF ever, IMHO).
I also discovered that some old games actually had new potential when enhanced with modern technology. For instance, take Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. Not the abysmal Mega Drive game, but rather the arcade game that was out around the same time. My local arcade down the local pier had this, and it was brilliant. I especially liked the smart bomb power, where Michael Jackson started dancing and all of the enemies joined in before exploding. This was especially hilarious when you were fighting non-human enemies such as dogs and spiders, who got up on their hind legs and started performing dance routines along with a load of riot police, robots and zombies. It was enhanced by netplay, and despite it being a Michael Jackson product (I'm not a Jackson fan per se) it proves to be a surprisingly solid multiplayer co-op shooter.
So, have you rediscovered any old classics (or had your childhood memories ruined)?
