Replacing Individual Discs

Has anyone else had a problem in which they had to replace individual discs for Voyager. I had just bought season 7 through amazon.com, via a third party. It was a factory sealed copy but when I tried to watch Disc 7 tonight (Yes, I was trying to watch Endgame), it wouldn't play. I tried on the main DVD player and the computer DVD player and neither would work. How do I go about replacing this disc since I've already purchased the product.

Also, I have an account with blockbuster. Is it legal to have them rent a copy of the disc, and then keep that disc and return the other one saying that it was defective? Would it make a difference since it's the same disc or would they know. I don't want to do anything illegal, but that does seem like the simplest way to solve this problem.

I had a problem with a season set (S1 of TOS) that I bought from Amazon.ca. It froze and wouldn't play the climactic scene of Balance of Terror! Yikes!! I emailed Amazon and they had no problem with exchanging the set.

ETA: Just re-read your post. It's a Marketplace purchase then. Sorry didn't realize. Are you sure a good cleaning won't fix it? I had a problem with one of my Voyager discs. I took it to a used DVD store and they cleaned it for me. Worked like a charm. Costs a few bucks but worth it.

It looks fine, but it won't even start on the DVD player.

I would try cleaning the disc first, even if it looks ok and blow on it to grab any unnecessary dust particles. If that doesn't work, maybe go after a replacement DVD?

Hmm, maybe you can request it on Amazon.com or something? I know, I know..not much help.

No. It's not legal.

Rental DVD's normally have the company logo pasted on them in the middle of the disc and they also might have stuff on them that might not be on normal box sets.

Well, I called the number and they are going to send another disc 7 in 2 to four weeks. They typically don't do it for purchases on Amazon or Ebay since they have no way of knowing if it's authentic or not, and that's understandable. I'm glad they were able to do this for me. I was going to watch Endgame this last Sunday, but what's another two weeks. It's not like I'm scratching at the bit to see it again. ;)

Well, I'm glad that number worked for you! At least you will be getting a replacement! I can kind of understand their reasoning, especially if it was like a "used" copy but since it was brand new unopened they should replace a defective disc. If the concern is that they are replacing for a bootleg version all they have to do was ask for your disc first and they would send an exchange upon verification.

I had trouble with one disc from a season set of Boston Legal, a Fox show. In instances such as these, you should always contact the manufacturer - unless you are in need of returning the entire set and are within the return period. I went to the Fox Television website and eventually found an email related to their DVD products. They sent me a replacement disc - no questions asked. I just assume Paramount or Warner Brothers etc., would do the same. You just need to track down that First Contact number. ;)

I finally got a working disc 7 today. Took them over 2 months, but I do appreciate it and it was free. The only problem now is I'm a little afraid to watch Endgame again. Any words of advice. ;)

Pretend that some of the future scenes are happening just after they got to Earth, and then you sort of get closure on some of them. :D

I ordered a market place purchase through amazon of Xena Season 3, and one of the discs didn't work. I contacted the seller, and they actually sent me a second set - without asking for the other one back! So now I have doubles of the other discs in case anything goes wrong. The seller may have trusted me more than usual as I was repeating customer back then, who'd always paid on time, and always given rave reviews.

That said, the TV on DVD thing has become such a huge hit that I'm sure there are many people who have had problems with 1 disc, or have damaged a disc themselves; it seems like it would be a good idea for companies to make individual discs available. Or not. I mean, if re-buy the entire set they get more money. But it would be nice if you could simply replace the one disc.
