Replacing Individual Blu Ray Discs?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but, while watching the last disc of my Season 2 Blu Ray of Next Gen, I found some skipping in a scene.

Upon ejection of the disc, I noticed a scratch along the disc that I think is causing the problem.

I have no clue how it got there, but I don't think it's fixable and I really don't want to risk damaging the disc further.

Does anyone know if you can order single replacement discs instead of having to rebuy the entire season?

Firstly, is the scratch radial (from the center of the disc outward) or tangential (at a 90 degree angle to the radius)? Blu-ray error correction can usually handle radial scratches, so I'm assuming your scratch is tangential. Have you tried gently rubbing the disc with a clean microfiber cloth from the center outward? It may not be a scratch and actually removable.

Secondly, have you tried to play the disc on another Blu-ray player? If so, does it skip in exactly the same spot?

Thirdly, when did you purchase the disc? Has it been less than 30 days since you bought it? You may be able to return the set to the retailer and get a new one.

I also found a scratch on an X Files disc several months after I bought it, and when I contacted Fox UK, they were happy to replace it. Of course that was when TV boxsets on DVD were around £100. We're at the same place with Blu-ray, it's more expensive and exclusive, and a premium item from distributors. They'll want to keep the customer sweet. If it is too late to return to the retailer, then contacting Paramount would be best.

Yeah, the scratch is along the radius and it's definitely there, cleaning it isn't having an effect.

I don't have another Blu Ray player to try it on, but I may try contacting the manufacturer. It's been a couple months since purchase.

Back when DVDs were worth something, and a few titles had delamination problems a year or so after purchase, I found that contacting the distributors directly offered great results, and I got several discs replaced that way. I also found a scratch on an X Files disc several months after I bought it, and when I contacted Fox UK, they were happy to replace it. Of course that was when TV boxsets on DVD were around £100. Oi! They're still worth a lot!

• They still exist for shows you can't find on any streaming network, which even includes popular shows
  
• If they're the DVD-RW, reuse them for PC/Mac data backup
  
• They make great coasters in a bar
• They're awesome frisbees
• Use them for hopscotch
• Even better for skeet shooting
