IIRC, in one of Temis' lists of pilots for American shows there was one that was a blatant rip-off of this. When I mentioned it I was told that nobody remembers the original or the remake and so nobody will care.
Apparently SyFy do.
Yeah I seem to remember that too, also Temis saying they're moving away from foreign remakes, and now there's 4 British shows on the slate Shameless, Skins, Being Human and this...
Talk about a show is very different from a show seeing the light of day. In years' past, there has been much more discussion of various foreign scripted shows being remade (most of which you would never have ever heard of, since they never made it past the talking phase.) There are scads of shows for which a pilot is ordered, and that's all we ever hear about it. We don't even get to see the pilot! I'm still waiting for
Revolution, Skiffy!
To provide some context, here's Skiffy's 2010-11 development slate (and this is just the stuff The Futon Critic has heard of - that site misses a lot of stuff):
Alphas
The Dome Experiment
Face Off
Forces of Nature
The Latimer Project
Marcel's Quantum Kitchen
Mr. Impossible
Paranormal Files
Relicquest
Three Inches
Untitled Artifact Search Series
Untitled Michael Rosenbaum Project (which sounds like the best of this whole mess)
Another fun or depressing thing to do is go to
Futon Critic's DevWatch and scroll thru the "previously in development" lists for each network. Here's skiffy's 08-09 development slate:
Brain Trust
Danger Game
Deputized
Earthlings
Escape
Kill Switch
Revolution
Soul Evidence
The Stranded
True Believer
What If
We didn't see ANY of them!

And there were a couple decent ideas in there.
The moral of this story is that don't start even rooting for a show until around this time of year, when the pilots in contention start to get announced. At that point, a show has a 50/50 chance or so of pickup. Before that, the odds are so long, don't even bother.
