Remembering "Scotty"

cblmc1296

I haven't been on the boards in some time but, as today is the anniversary of Jimmy Doohan's passing, it seemed fitting to post a little something in remembrance.

I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time with Mr. Doohan about twenty odd years ago at a sparsely attended Trek convention. I found him to be among the warmest, kindest, most genuine individuals I've ever had the good fortune to meet. His presence in the Star Trek universe and his absence now are both keenly felt.

Here's to ya', lad!

Still the best chief engineer in Starfleet...

We miss you Mr. Doohan - I propose a toast to his memory, and whatever you're drinking, make it something green...

I have to say Mr. Doohan's portrayal of Scotty in the original series is one of the biggest reasons for my love of Star Trek. Mr. Doohan and the rest of the original cast put their hearts into the characters and it shows on screen.

Rest in Peace Mr. Doohan, and thank you for the memories.

Does Mountain Dew count?

Hard to believe its already been seven years. Godspeed Mr. Scott.

Just had a very green Margarita with dinner. I think that's green enough. Doohan was, indeed, a great character and his role in the TNG episode where he had been in a transporter do-loop was outstanding.

I only got to meet Doohan once, but he was very cordial, and made sure people minded their manners...would love to know what he'd think of what's become of Scotty's beloved Engineering in the new timeline...

I met Doohan when I was a junior in high school. He was the first celebrity that I met:

Considering he would be 92, I doubt he'd really care one way or the other.

I remember the last thing I saw of Doohan was an interview he did for one of the DVD sets. He was looking terrible, gaunt like a cadaver and hard to understand at points. It was really heart-breaking to see that.

I prefer my last image of Scotty to be the last scene in "Relics".

Met Jimmy when he gave a talk/blooper reel presentation when I was at Iowa State University in 1980.

He signed my first edition Technical Manual for me.

In the back, he signed it "James Doohan".

In the front, he signed it "Montgomery Scott".

I agree with you all. He was a very nice man. I had met with him 3-4 times at conventions. My first time was the best "He was the first Star Trek actor I met" and
being the 2nd person out of more than 5000 people, he saw that day.

I met him at a convention, must have been 2002 or 2003. He was not well. Still he soldiered on and gave everyone a real treat.

I was walking behind him in the lobby. He was with a young woman and a little girl. I thought they were his daughter and grandaughter, but it was his wife and child!

You go, Jimmy!

:techman:

I met Mr Doohan once for a few minutes - you could really sense his positive attitude and spirit!
