Remember when CAD was a gaming comic?

CAD used to be my favorite web comic. It was funny, irreverant and just generally fun.

But lately... It's gotten "heavy."

I know that Tim (the creator) says it's not a "gaming comic" so much as it is a "comic about gamers" but read the comics from the last few years (up until a couple/few months ago) and you'll see the differences the comic has made to itself.

It's just been heavy lately. Between Lilah and Ethan's wedding and pregnancy, Lilah's miscarriage and not (in todfay's comic) Lilah's "we need to talk (about the wedding)."

I still like the comic enough I just wish it would go back to being fun.

The black-and-white strips on the news page are a nice balance to the heavier storylines. I also prefer the funnier, game-based comics, but it's Tim's project, and he can do what he wants. The older strips are still there in the archives to enjoy.

Soooo.... You're saying I can't dislike where the strip is going because I can read the older strips and because it's Tim's project.

Huh.

Well, I guess I love the comic then!

Tim Buckley is a hack, an asshole, and a talentless wanker. Whose webcomic was always shit.

I've always enjoyed and thought it was pretty well drawn and often funny. BUt I do agree he's an asshole and his comic is slipping under the weight of the heavier plot arc.

There's been a CAD-mocking thread running at Something Awful for a few weeks, and one of the Goons came up with a program like the Garfield randomiser, only instead of picking completely random frames and putting them together, it takes a random CAD episode and replaces the final panel with the last panel from the miscarriage strip.

Yes, it's quite astonishingly tasteless (it is SA, after all), but the results are often extremely funny - far more so than CAD has ever managed.

He really should have stuck with the "Pick you own Adventure" scripts that he had a while back those were very entertaining.

I don't know where you're getting that message from what I wrote. Of course you're allowed to dislike the current direction and complain all you want. However, since he's doing the comic for pleasure and not profit, reader criticism is not going to mean that much to him.

The sentence about the archives is my way of looking at the bright side. There's still humor there to enjoy.

In a way, this situation is not that different from regular comic books. There can be a time of greatness followed by a time of great drought. We celebrate and read the amazing runs years later, and we purge the bad stuff from our memories.

8bit theater is much much better

Especially if you are a Final Fantasy Junkie!!

What am I saying, 8bit theater is the reason I got into Final Fantasy.

I love CAD, and Tim Buckley's always been a good guy when corresponding.
