Remember, now extinct, StarTrekBBS & the SF Channel's bboard ST forum?

Aquehonga

Fleet Captain
The SFC had other bboards IE: QL, TZ, etc. All gone now.

StarTrekBBS, a competitor of sorts for this board, is also deceased.

Besides me, who else here is a veteran of the Sci-Fi Channel's extinct bboard forums? ST &/or QL, in particular:vulcan:

I had registered on StarTrekBBS, but regrettably posted very little there:o Maybe a dozen posts all-in-all:(

Back then I posted on the SFC's ST bboard & TrekBBS, though I had a different username on TrekBBS back then. That TrekBBS account o'mine keeled over.

So, anyone else here a SFC bboard vet?

Anyone here true vets of StarTrekBBS?

Recollecting deceased forums we were in can be fun:beer:

Now, take that stroll down Memory Lane:hugegrin:

I was never a member of that Forum, but I used to participate in a couple of the AOL Forums when I first joined in the early 90s; one of them was a Star Trek Forum Moderated by a guy named Data1701D and Trolled by a moron named AMG001. Fun times.

Reminds me how different TrekBBS was 7-8 years ago. It seemed more fun back then in some ways for some reason:confused:

Different inferior system then. Some non-vBulletin, pre-vBulletin set-up.

I think TrekBBS had a very different bunch of 9ers back then. They were particularly militant & abrasive. You'd see complaints in the DS9 forum & all over TrekBBS about "the over aggressive DS9 fans".

The 9ers here now are nothing like that. Haven't seen 9ers like that on here in years.

StarTrekBBS was very annoying to log in to. I think I ended up having to re-register 2-3 times on there. Very frustrating board:brickwall:

No wonder I posted <20 posts on there.

The SFC's bboards were fun but one annoying thing was how their threads worked. You'd have an OP, then replies. Then those replies would become mini- or sub-threads within the Main Thread. I could swear some replies to replies in those sub-threads became mini-threads of their own.

SFC's bboards were fun & but had that confusing posting system. You could get lost & post a New Thread as a reply to a reply to a reply & not realize it at all till you came back.

Aside from that, SFC's bboard ST forum was lots'o'fun. aficionados.

The SFC's QL & TZ bboard forums were fun too.

Met others back then who were on both here & the SFC's bboards simultaneously.

SFC's bboards had NO mods. You'd never see that now.

Funny, now, this is the ONLY ST message board that counts:vulcan:

I don't think I stumbled upon either of those. I do remember StarTrek.com being very different and way more interactive when I first started using the internet. Klingon and Academy chat rooms, I believe?

Was STBBS connected or a different thing entirely? I do recall a board on the above site that I signed up to and never actually used.

I was around st.com from just a few months after it opened till they closed the IRC Chats-- now use the boards over there. I'm the first one to say it was a shit load more fun back "in the day". Now it's about 80% flame wars, 10% stupidity, and 10% people trying to talk around the other two.

Never used the SFC boards. I tried lurking, but they had some funky system back then they was just annoying.

Re: Remember, now extinct, StarTrekBBS & the SF Channel's bboard ST fo

SeerSGB, the annoying funky SFC board system you're referring to is probably the same bboard system I used when a user there.

If so, I totally understand your frustration. SFC's Thread-Within-a-Thread-Within-a-Thread-Within-a-Thread System was an annoying quirk on there.

SFC`s modless bboard forums seemed trollfree, which is weird but interesting:vulcan: I don't remember any or complaints about trolls either.

SFC's using some new type of system. My SFC bboard forum account (Billory) keeled over.

SFC's current boards seem & look vBulletin-ish. But, SFC's present boards seem like a ghostown, especially compared with TrekBBS.

7-8 years ago, SFC's bboard forums were rockin' happening now busy places. Alot like TrekBBS is now.

Back then TrekBBS was as rockin'n'rollin as it is now.

StarTrekBBS, I think, was TrekWeb's message board:confused:

I guess TrekBBS is to Trek Nation & Trek Today, what StarTrekBBS was to TrekWeb.

Like 6-8 years ago, StarTrekBBS was a very busy high-traffic high-volume ST aficionado message board. Comparable to TrekBBS, but it seemed to be a far wilder "barbarous" raucous place than TrekBBS. Almost an "MU TrekBBS".

But StarTrekBBS is now extinct, along with the SFC's bboards.

That's how cookies crumble:(
