Remastering the Lot

Butters

There are a few remastering threads about where people are debating the pros and cons, but I thought, for reasons of fun, we could imagine that TPTB have decided to screw the expense and remaster the lot. Taking the original film negatives and the script and reworking all of modern Trek as one new HD product. Keeping only the original ship designs and live action footage, everything else is expendable. Can we come up with a difinitive list of the positive changes that could be made? Keeping in mind that this version is for today's/future audience and the trekkies alike.

For starters, I would look at the way the starfields and warpdrive are presented. It always bugged me that the ship's view of space suffered the same light pollution as the English countryside. Its space, they should be surrounded by an amazing vista of endless wonder. Is there really anywhere in the galaxy that would have its view of the galactic core obscured? It should be every (almost) shot.

The warp speed I quite like as it is, though the shooting stars are unrealistic. Passing stars should pass quickly, and grow in size as they approach. Distant clouds of the central stars should barely change at all. This approach would add further drama when extreme velocities are used (e.g. WNOHGB and Qwho). Over the course of TNG, the Milky Way back drop would become familiar, and to the keen eye, the new outlines offered in DS9's forrays in to the Gamma Quad and Voyager's Delta Quad would add greater interest and sense of size and space travel.
Likewise, Voyager's journey to the Alpha Quadrant would be illustrated effectively as the ship moved across the cosmos and guarenteed no stock footage. And Bajor's Sun should alway's be the most prominent star in the background.

Space physics. The Zero-G maneuvers are usually described quite well in the dialogue, but the external fx let them down. All the new shots would have the B5, BSG, NASA et al approach to space flight. No aerodynamics. The ships would maintain plausible distances too with enemy vessles. If I was starship captain I would never let a warbird in my comfort zone.

The USS Voyager would accumulate damage and grot along the way too. Inside and out.

Unique locations too. Every visited world would have its own art created. I'm not averse to Earthlike worlds looking like Earth though, with oceans and land masses. I'm suprised most of Trek's worlds looked so odd from orbit but at ground level so Earthlike. Obviously, the landmasses would need reorganising. A few more cityscapes here and there, with ground level detail and flybys etc.

The massive star base in 10110101(?), drop the TSFS reuse and introduce a new design.

There would be no room for VOY:Threshold. This would be relegated to a DVD extra.

Thats all I got for now. But what else is screaming for attention?
