Remastered First Trek Pilot... Movie Tie-in...

Actually, I'm pretty sure you saw "The Menagerie" - it was released in theaters last year.
yup it was "The Menagerie" I went and saw it. I really enjoyed it on the big screen. I for one am glad to see the cage. Last time I saw it it had all those bits of black and white and changing voices in it.

Yeah I saw that too and the show was sold out...they actually had to add another show because the demand was so high.

So does this mean they'll re-remaster "The Menagerie," since it's a wrapper for "The Cage?" Or are they using the same upgrades from "The Menagerie" and just blending them into any bits that weren't already aired?

It is remastered...that's the version that was shown in the theaters to celebrate the remastered box set release.....

Ouch..another nail in the coffin of captain April :p

Captain who? ;)
Captain Robert April. The "FIRST" captain of the Constitution Class U.S.S. Enterprise. Not to mention he's this series' first captain to be married at the time of his service which is more rare than a gay couple in Star Trek.

Middy's smiley tells me that he was joking and that he does indeed know who April is.

Or...

Middy's smiley tells me that he's happy someone poked his eye.

Indeed it's the former. I haven't had my eye poked since I needed rent money back in college.

So when and where is it airing? I hope it's not on MY STUPID TV because they always do terrible commercial edits and I don't get it in HD.

Here in the Capital District of NY (Albany/Schenectady/Troy) it's on both Saturday (7pm) and Sunday (7pm) on My TV (the old UPN channel).

I know I'm in the minority but I just can't stand "The Cage" so I'm not too excited about it as a method of plugging new viewers into Trek.

I realized it's pretty universally loved though so I'm probably just talking out my ass.

I think it's a good episode but not a good episode for a casual Trek viewer. It's great 'cause it's the first, it introduces the characters, and it has some significant themes. I'ts also pretty slow and I don't think anybody not into Trek would fall in love with it.

I love The CAge. Its so different from TOS, the acting and costumes and music is superb. And to think they were thinking of releasing it as a motion picture before filming.

Seriosuly though, its a good pilot, Hunter is first class, although sleep walks through a couple of scenes here and there.

The Menagerie is a clever edit/reuse of old footage. Great ep, one of my faves. Cements Spocks history with Pike into Trek history, thus its in the new movie.

:guffaw:

Havnt seen him for a while now. Must be lying low off the radar now that release date is looming. Maybe he and Warped 9 are gonna bomb theatres accross the US to form the shape of the delta emblem, making it visible from, ironically, space.

I never realized those lamp thingies on the forward consoles. Suddenly those lamp thingies on the Abrams bridge don't seem so out of place now.

Yes, I thought that the second I saw them. Just like the bridge in 'The Cage', the bridge of captain Pike, the bridge in the new film is captain Pike's bridge... lamp thingies included! A nod to TOS. Right?

Didn't everyone see that? Hello? Is this thing on?

How about "Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek".

How about "no." Besides, Gene asked that series not to be considered canon if you are a "WWGD" type of person.

It has his bloody name, the cast, writers and it's an award winning show.

Yes, that award for "Best Supporting Technical 2nd Unit Lighting on Location" was terrific.

Cripes. I think I'm going to have turn in my Star Trek fan card. :(

Technically...

This movies Main Premise (Time Travel/Alternate Time lines) blows all that 'NOT-CANON-CRAP' out the window...

Thanks to JJ & Company... It's ALL CANON AFTER MAY 7th !!!

Actually, it's a case of NONE of it being canon after May 7th...

Except for...yep...

ENTERPRISE. THAT is apparently still canon.

The rest (even TOS) hasn't happened yet, and so what the new timeline will bring is anyone's guess.

No.. You're missing the point...

By TPTB saying that this movie can be Officially Explained/Rationalized by an Alternate Time Line Theory...,

Then ALL OF OF TREK IS CANON Now...

Because it can ALL be Explained/Rationalized in the Exact Same Manner...

Yeah, the famous gooseneck viewers.

It could be a nod, yeah, but...

They are small screens to view either communications/data for the user in The Cage/WNMHGB and then disapeared after the set was altered a bit for regular eps.

The ones on Pikes bridge in the movie, however, seem to be nothing more than desk lamps.
