Religulous out TODAY on DVD!!!

There is one other thing I want to say about the movie. I appreciate most of all it's bluntness. If this had been a regular fictional movie that had brought up these some points - in a more artful way- say they way V for Vendetta brought up the problems of government oppression, it would have not only made lots of money but also have been praised. But the film doesn't do that, it's blunt as hell, and it just comes out says what it wants to say right off the bat.

That's what I love

Religion makes you sound like you have a small mind, no matter who you are.

I need to rent this.

I Red Boxed it because of this thread (Thanks Tuln), and it was well worth an hour and a half of my life.

I have to say, I was impressed by the Catholics in the film. I think we kind of get a bad rap from other Christians in general, but I was proud. They seemed to be much more pragmatic and scientifically conscious than the other groups showcased.

Edit to add: How hi-larious was the pot smoker with the candle. :guffaw:

I just finished watching this with my son, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the last couple of minutes to be quite chilling. Yeah, humanity needs to grow up. Now.

The pot smoker was hilarious! I wonder if Maher was really smoking a joint?

My biggest problems with this movie, despite the fact that I largely agree with many of his opinions, were:

  1. He makes no bones about being a user of hookers and blow
  2. He often uses Michael Moore-esque edits and slapstick flim clips to make his interviewees look like idiots. He should let their words speak for themselves. Even the genome guy, one of the smartest dudes on the planet... it would have been interesting to hear what the man had to say. But Bill Maher is a condescending prick, so instead we get a picture of a monkey flinging poop at another monkey after Maher asks a question.
It was entertaining enough and it made some good points. However, Bill Maher is a jackass and his methods are that of a jackass. Fuck him.

Well it IS a comedy, and that was the bouy of the film. You need editors, he had hundreds of hours of footage, enough to make a Religulous television show. I think Maher's a prick, but that's part of his appeal, and he does make some good in your face points

THAT I'd watch! I think he'd be less prone, in that case, to resort to trick-editing to make his point.

I wholeheartedly believe that someone needed to do this at some point: reveal the true absurdity of organized religion in a popular way to the public. However, I definitely would have made improvements to the movie to make it more "honest" and certainly would not have made the world's Agnostic Ambassador Bill 'Freakin' Maher!

Well there was a rumor going around that all that extra footage would go to making a HBO show.. but I don't know what the latest on that is.

I suspect that, despite the lack of talk these last two months about it, they may really do it: I heard that Blockbuster hasnt ordered enough DVD's of the film.. and its flying off their shelves. Once peopple talk about it, they'll want more. This is the kind of film that I think will run rampant in the home video market
