Relic Hunter coming to DVD - properly, this time

Yeah I know it's a guilty pleasure. But it's got Tia Carrere, and the son of Tony Vedeshi from Space 1999 - what's not to love!

A few years ago (must be about 6 or 7 actually), Relic Hunter had a DVD release, but it was a half-assed "best of" collection that I personally ignored. If you're going to release a series, release the whole thing, not selected highlights (especially when the episodes you want to see aren't included).

TV Shows on DVD is reporting Alliance is finally getting around to releasing proper season sets for the show, with Season 1 coming in April and Season 2 in May:

We're getting closer to Holmes & Yo-Yo being announced. I can just feel it! :p

I'm cringing already. Mrs. Silvercrest is going to want this. She loves the series, I hate it. Maybe I shouldn't tell her.

Finally, it can get off of Canadian TV (most Canadians that I know of hate Relic Hunter being rerun on Space or Showcase or TVTropolis)!

But why isn't it being released by Paramount Home Video (Paramount Television was the co-producer of the show along with CHUM Television and Alliance)?

Holmes & Yo-Yo on DVD? When there's other shows more deserving? Not a chance, and it would have to be from NBC Universal by way of Shout Factory. Why not put out something better, like Future Cop? Or even Mann & Machine?:)

While I totally understand the hope for complete releases (I'd love to revisit some of the later Early Edition episodes myself), I also see the reasoning behind a "best-of" set. Supposing someone like myself was curious about the show but didn't have time to watch a full season; since shows often get off to a rocky start before finding their footing, what better place for a casual observer to start?

Alliance probably got the DVD release rights, just as I think they have the rights for CSI DVDs instead of whatever CBS's DVD arm is called now. This is generally a good thing, though, because Paramount DVDs tend to be a bit pricey as Trek fans know, while Alliance DVDs tend to show up for $30-40 initially and within a year or so they're in the Wal-Mart special racks for $20.

Well, after Small Wonder was released a couple weeks ago it became pretty obvious they were starting from the far end and working their way back!

im not even going to lie, i LOVED this show. it was like the poor mans indiana jones, but with sexy people. i even thought her assistant was kinda hot (niles?).

I don't feel guilty at all, I just liked the show! Right up there with Tales of the Gold Monkey in the pantheon of low-budget, syndicated, silly adventure shows.

Now what's keeping Queen of Hearts from DVD? :D

Well, it was no Tales Of The Gold Monkey, which I am looking forward to getting with great anticipation-- but it was a nice, straightforward adventure show that I enjoyed. And, of course, it has Tia Carrere. I'll probably pick this up at some point (although my DVD want-list is pretty long).

It's great that they are bringing out the complete series on DVD - about time too!! However, there is a petition on the internet called Bring Back Relic Hunter. As I type this it has 408 signatures. We need more because even if it doesn't make them bring back the show, and do a season 4 - it might encourage them to make a movie. Can you imagine how brilliant that would be now with all the amazing special effects they have!!!:)

Nice news. I wasn't a huge fan of the show but it looked fun. Now, the big action series I'm waiting for on DVD is 7 Days. You hear me, CBS?!?!!! I want 7 Days on DVD now!!!!!

Under most circumstances, I would agree. But with Relic Hunter, it seemed very strange, especially since their "best of" set contained 22 episodes. That's pretty much a whole season's worth of episodes anyway, and it's not like it was a particularly long running series.

The assistant always kinda bothered me. Sure, he wore glasses sometimes but he was way too handsome to be the hopeless nerd they portrayed him as being.
