Regarding the Starfleet emblem

At least the ones on the uniforms. In TOS each ship had its own emblem, in the movie the Enterprise delta is the only symbol we see.

Since that was worn by the Kelvin crew, do you think that the in-universe explanation is that it is to honor the crew of the Kelvin - much like the placement of the shipyard in Iowa honors George Kirk ( and the Kelvin salt shakers, etc...)?

I think the emblem has always been the starfleet emblem. Special task forces and units recieved a distinct emblem.

This is my justification for it

If you really need an in-universe reason, it might be more logical to state that that emblem has been Starfleet's emblem since before it's inception, and TOS got it wrong.

The chevron was used by personnel assigned to other ships even during TOS (see "Court Martial").

That's only because 60s TV viewers were not as sophisticated as us modern viewers ;)

Granted it is only the two douche bags at the bar that give Kirk a hard time.

Yeah, but each ship had different symbols in the center of it. Now, they all use the Enterprise Command symbol, including at Starfleet HQ.

I don't really mind either way though. I guess it might've been to honor the Kelvin.

the emblem didn't bother me so much. i just didn't care for the uniforms the Kelvin crew were wearing.

Yes. And it was directly used as the emblem for the Enterprise in TOS because Enterprise was the flagship.

Yes, but that's TOS. That book has closed. You cannot logically draw parallels where none exist. In the new universe, there are no different emblems. Why? who knows... We don't.

Theres nothing to say that they don't exist, just that we haven't seen them yet

Easy, George Kirk was obviously the one who suggested each ship should get their own emblem in the Real Timeline some point after his service on the Kelvin. Since he bit the dust early , no seperate emblems.

There are a number of possible explanations:-

1) In the original universe the delta shield was always Starfleet's emblem and there was a change before TOS that decided to limit it to certain assignments and give others to other ships and starbases.

2) The Kelvin had "ownership" of the shield before it was passed to the TOS Enteprise.

3) In the new timeline Starfleet adopts the logo earlier, pursuant to the Kelvin's exploits rather than the nuEnterprise's.

Take your pick....

Did I dream this or did the delta have rank pins in it? Spock seems to have three lines = Commander?
