Referencing classic novels?

FRAK! I'm going to order Memory Prime now off Amazon

There's also a reference to the band Flight of the Conchords in there, too, so run out and get their DVDs and CDs....

In fact... There are references to, uh, everything I've ever actually written, so you'll need to buy all that too. Yeah. Ahem.
And again, everybody should be watching/listening to Flight of the Conchords anyway - it's a moral imperative.

...Which actually goes for all of Jim's books, Big Finish audios, and those articles he wrote about Tomorrow Never Dies, as well. :)

(Apologies if I got wrong which Bond film is was, Jim - I know it was at least one of the Brosnan ones...)

No, you're dead on, Clay. Thanks for the support, matey! :techman:

No worries, good sir. Just goes to show you that (a) I pay attention when people talk to me, and (b) on that particular evening in the bar at Gallifrey, I clearly hadn't had nearly enough to drink! ;)

it's a tv show about a fake band.

Actually, it's a real band (well, a comedy duo, if you want to get technical); they'd been around for a bit before they had the TV show (and the BBC radio show before it).

And a great, great band it is. Only seen one episode of series two, but series one is excellent!

There are alot of stand alone stories that link subtly into canon events which I like too, (ie: TOS #82 Mind Meld with Pardek's inflitration of the reunification movement explained, and TNG The Best And Brightest, added considerably to the Data, 'head in a cave' episode and Generations from a refeshing, 'lower decks' point of view aswell as giving us our best glimpse of Aademy life).

But the characters that are purely in those indvisuyal stories are never used or talked about again. surely these people actually become something? It would be nice to have more original book series like Vanguard which are set in the familiar Trek eras but don't focus on the TV show crews, with some characters form the standalone books as characters or at least mentioned.
They did it for some tv characters like Shelby and Robin Lefer, so why not vica versa? The Trek galaxy has more then 4 ships and a Cardasian spaestation in it.
