Redundancy?

I'm writting a fanfic consisting of a child born of the Voyager crew, the daughter of Chakotay and Seven of Nine in a post-"Endgame" senario.

When considering names for the infant, I had thought of the name "Elizabeth," to be chosen by both parents to honor Admiral Kathryn "Elizabeth" Janeway. But as I was watching a few Enterprise episodes, I reencountered the episodes "Demons" and "Terra Prime." The focus of both episodes is the beloved Elizabeth, the daughter and binary clone of Trip and T'Pol.

I am concerned about giving the name Elizabeth to Chakotay and Seven's daughter. I wonder if it would be redundant, as the name is already in use by another beloved character.

Please let me know how you feel about this name, and give any suggestions you have as to another name you feel would fit applicably.

(All comments on this topic are welcome, but please no hate comments if you are a more traditionalistic "JC" fan. I am simply writting for the joy and pleasure of exploring the Trek universe.)

"Elizabeth" is also the name of Trip Tucker's sister (killed in the Xindi war), which is why T'Pol suggested naming their daughter Elizabeth.

On "The X-Files," there were a mess of characters named William or Bill -- Mulder's father, Scully's brother, Scully's father I think, Scully and Mulder's baby. Didn't bother them.

If you're worried about redundancy, the Trek writers have already covered that. It's your story. I suggest you name the child what you think Chakotay and Seven would name her. Elizabeth is a lovely name. :) Or you could name her Elizabeth and have the parents call her by a nickname, such as Beth.

I can picture Chakotay having a daughter named Beth. It is kind of soft like him.. but has a formal side (Elizabeth). Irene would be a good middle name, 7 would probably find it logical to honor her only living biological relative.

It's a conventional enough name that I don't think it would be seen as redundant at all.

Thank you to all who've responded! Your comments have been very helpful, and I truely appreciate them.

I have decided to keep the name "Elizabeth" for my character because, as HopefulRomantic wrote, it seems to be the name that I believe Chakotay and Seven would choose.

I believe Seven would be moving past the notion that "designations are irrelevent" to the idea that "designations should have meaning." (This is why, in my writting, she decided to revert to her Human name of Annika- to honor the idea that she has moved past the past and into her own individuality).

I also believe that she would be very methodical in choosing her daughter's name, choosing a name that would honor someone or some life-altering event. And of all the individuals closest her, Kathryn Janeway would be the most likely person she would wish to honor, as it was Janeway who had liberated her from the Collective, and who had guided her closely afterwards, followed closely by The Doctor, had only the child been a male of course.

Of course, you will have to pay me royalties (18.9 % will do nicely) since my daughter's name is Elizabeth.
