Redesigning the Enterprise for STXII?

His nuBSG-style Enterprise? Maybe in the mirror universe...

(btw, I find it interesting that he scaled up his Enterprise about the same as JJ's team did)

There was a redesigned Enterprise that I think Gabe Koerner did about 2 years before the new movie came out. I found that to be a superior Enterprise to what we saw on screen in JJ Trek 1. I remember printing a few shots of that puppy out and putting them on my office wall.
And for most of those two years I remember pictures of Enterprise designs--the majority of them of Koerner's--being posted again and again, misidentified as the ship which would be appearing in the movie. I thought then and still think that Gabe did a really nice job, but there were easily two or three dozen threads which essentially went:
Thread-starter: "Look! I found a picture of the new Enterprise!"
Everyone else: "No, you didn't - that's the Koernerprise. Again."

Vektor even parodied the effect once.

One of the ironies I always found with those who hated the JJ Enterprise design but liked Gabe's design was the fact that the nacelles (a big issue for those that hated the JJprise) were so very similar in design.

Maybe they could repaint the bridge set to look a bit like the colours used in the original series bridge (though obviously not in the technicolor brights) - a more toned down, modern version of the original paints that still followed the scheme of the 60s bridge would be a nice nod to the original series ... I remember watching the 2009 movie and thinking, "Man, that bridge is so bright, it would drive you nuts having to work there every day for eight hour shifts!"

I can go either way with the "ample nacelles", as historically in jet engine developement with the advent of turbo-fan technology we saw the same kind of thing (like the JT9 that powered the first 747s for example) with the large fan stage up front. Later engineers figured out how to duct the fan exhaust back into a fairing to the rear of the engine, for better areodyanimics. So I figure the "same theory" sort of applies here... sci-fi wise.

I loved the 2009 Enterprise, but there are two things I would like to see changed. First, the brewery engine room has to go. Second, and size of the ship needs to be established. There are blatant size contradictions in the first movie, especially in regards to the shuttle bay. The producers need to realize that fans pay attention to that sort of thing and straighten it out.

If fans were the only ones going to see the movies we wouldn`t have any more movies. The general public has to be drawn into it as well and they generally don`t care one way or the other.

Let the fans argue about the details between shows, the way it`s been done for 45 years.

By the way, this is how the original Enterprise design would look presented in the modern cinematic style, or whatever you want to call it:

They probably WILL. That's more or less what they did between TMP and TWOK. It's really just a change in the set lighting.

There is no size discrepancy. Official cannon states the ship is 735ish meters.

Unoffically:

If anything the ship should be 1200 meters owing to the enormous size of Budgeneering and the ginormous hangarbay. I think Kingdaniel nailed this as perfectly as possible in an excellent article.

This beast can eat the ugly next gen designs for breakfast and because of that I am happy to live with the various nitpicks

In any event as much as I would like to see more belly on the secondary hull and also move back the secondary hull along the connecting neck. We are not going to see that. Orci said as much and that his comments were regarding interor sets ect.

No, fans aren't the only ones going to see the movies, but that doesn't mean the producers can't keep the fans in mind. Trek fans are a discerning bunch and don't let production mistakes slide. There is no reason why you can't make a movie that appeals to the general public and the fans.

Which fans should they keep in mind? The purists? The niners? The NuUniverse fans? What exactly should they keep in mind?

I personally liked the scale of the engineering section - something fantastically large, with its workings open and available. But if they could keep the scale, and dump the 20th century tech that would be great.

You say that as if those are mutually exclusive groups.

Not at all. But different groups of fans have different ideas about what makes good Trek. Hell, individual fans have different ideas. Who exactly should the producers listen to?

Have you ever seen a group of Trek fans agree on everything? Or anything?

The only constant in the Star Trek universe is discord.

This is all they need to do:

Just put some more space between the nacelles and I'll be happy. :techman:

For me it's these two, but they're quite superficial. As well, I'd be more okay with the brewery if there was simply more gadgets around, or at least a shot establishing that it connects to the ship. The difference between engineering and, say, the bridge was jarring and took me out of the film momentarily, and I suspect that's how most people noticed it as a brewery in the first place.
