A little Christmas gift for everyone.

Well, after working so much on the Enterprise and its many versions, I decided to have a go at the Reliant and her class. Notice that I put the deflector in the rollbar, which also includes reverse impulse engines for quick stops (no way those little thrusters can slow you down from impulse speeds). This meant I had to move the torpedo launchers somewhere else.

I really dig the deflector dish on the rollbar. It always bothered me that the regular Miranda-class didn't have one.

I've always been quite comfortable with the Reliant and many others ships lacking a deflector dish. That said, this is a cool design.

Although I decided to put it there after considering other options, using the rollbar to put the deflector (and the reverse engines) comes from Prologic9's USS Bombay:

I don't understand the obstructed(?) ramscoop instead of the bussard collectors, but I really like the deflector and the new phaser structures on the pylons.

I also really like that this isn't a simple kit-bash of the Constitution parts but its own thing. If we'd seen this instead of the Reliant, every Federation ship [class] would have more personalized character instead of being a reworking of whatever the Enterprise looked like in its period.

Also, I don't know that the reverse impulse engines work from a structural stress perspective where they are on the pod, but I appreciate their inclusion, and I like the shape of it overall.

Finally, probably because the drawings are white, I kinda imagine this ship's bridge looking like the one in this concept art for Phase II/TMP, or the white bridge at the end of STIV.

They are slightly obstructed but imagine that their field is angled.

As for the ramscoop on the nacelles, it doesn't make sense to have to bring all that matter through the nacelles and pylons back to the storage units, and then once they are warp plasma, back to the nacelles. I'd rather have the ramscoop near the matter storage.

Wondering about the deck numbers. Main Bridge is Deck One. Should not the telescope be on Deck Two, and then Deck Three be the first to extend to the aft end of the ship (currently labeled "Deck 2"), and then all the decks below be re-numbered accordingly???

The forward tubes are mounted port and starboard, where the traditional design has the deflector/space attraction sensors. Took me a few minutes to find them. Interesting reimagining.

Deck two has a two-level open area, hence why it's considered only one deck.

On either side of the ship, on the flat area. You can see them on the front view.

I thought about that for one of my Enterprise designs but it's too much work and I don't think I'd be very good at it. You'll have to make due with the cutaway.

This is a Motion Picture design. The TMP Enterprise has 18 turrets, and the Reliant has 12 plus the four cannons. The TOS Enterprise, by the way, had ZERO, because none were placed on the model and the ship always fired from the same non-existent emplacements.

Let's get the facts right.

Yeah the TOS “phaser banks” (and photon tubes, for that matter), were all added after the fact by the FJ E Blueprints and Tech Manual (which is soft canon at best, as portions of them have been seen on-screen) and never marked on the filming miniature.

The Reliant actually had 20; someone pointed out to me recently that there are single-ball turrets on the sides of the cannons.

On the side of the cannons, I doubt those are phasers. They're not balls, at least. They're... squares.
