Red vs Blue....the best web show ever?

So, I first discovered Red vs Blue a few years ago, and went through all 100 episodes in a few days.

A week ago I decided to watch the first few again. I like the first 20-30 episodes the best, personally. Still......yeah, I ended up going through all 100 again over the course of the week. It's just that good!

Now there's this Red vs Blue: Reconstruction thing. I'd heard about it some time ago, but only actually watched the 12 (so far) episodes today. It's....different. I'm not sure about the more serious tone of this series. (Although there's still plenty of the craziness from the original, of course.)

What's the deal with Reconstruction? Why haven't Tucker or Donut shown up yet? How often do new episodes appear? What was the motivation behind it?

Also, feel free to recount your favorite RvB moments......
Church: You don't suppose that sword is makin' him sick, do you?
Caboose: I don't see how, it hasn't sneezed once.
Church: We don't know anything about it though. Maybe it runs on radiation and it's poisoning him.
Caboose: Or, maybe it runs on solar power!
Church: Wait now...why would solar power make him sick?
Caboose: Is he a Republican?

I used to watch it, years ago, but then I kinda lost it. I did like it, from what I remember.

Well, entire thing's on YouTube, if you're interested.

Another great exchange...Church describing the Red team while Simmons is "defected" and pretending to be Blue:
Church: Okay, that red one, that's Sarge. He's their leader. Which is lucky for us, because he's not that good a leader.
Simmons: Okay.
Church: And the one next to him is Donut. I like Donut. He's pretty harmless, man, I don't think he'd hurt a fly.
Simmons: Yeah.
Church: And last is the orange one. That's Gryph. He's really lazy, and really annoying.
Simmons: Yeah.
Church: But at least he's smart. In fact, I think he might be the smartest one of the bunch.
Simmons: You mean smarter than all of the ones there now.
Church: No, I mean smarter than all of them put together, man. There's this other guy who hangs around in maroon armor, named Simmons. I haven't seen him in a while, but he's a freakin' know-it-all, man. He acts like he's smart, but he's really not.
Simmons: What?
Church: Yeah, he walks around like he owns the place, but nobody listens to him. They always make fun of him behind his back.
Simmons: What do they say?
Church: Oh, just how he's not good at stuff, and how he's dumb, and the stuff he likes is dumb, and also how he's not as attractive as other people are.
Simmons: *sniff* Yep.....he sounds like a real jerk.... *sniff* *runs off*
Church: Hey, where you going?
Simmons: I have to use the bathroom! *sniffle*
Church: Well hurry up, man! I want to finish your orientation before you make me dinner!
Sheila: You do know that's Simmons, right?
Church: Oh yeah.

I have yet to finish the last season of the series but I do like it a great deal. My favorite character is Caboose by far. He always has terrific lines. For example:

"Time...line...? *Sigh* Time is not made out of lines. It is made out of circles. That is why clocks are round!"

:guffaw:

I prefer Pure Pwnage, but RvB isn't bad, to each their own. :)

On a vaguely related note, the most interesting machinima I've seen recently is Rage & Rapture, a World of Warcraft music video featuring assets from Unreal Tournament 3 and Portal.

I first watched it a few months ago. I still remember the moment I fell in love.

"No, I think he called her a slut."

True, that is a great line. :)

Another one right on target....
Caboose: So I say to the guy, "How you going to get the tank down to the planet?" And he goes, "I'll just put it on the ship." And I go, "If you've got a ship that can carry a tank, why not just put guns on the ship and use it instead?"
Sarge is great too.

Sarge: Stupid Grif and Simmons. Can't even build a regulation grave! What did we bring all those drills for! So, this is the afterlife, huh? Heh, not too impressive if you ask me. This place is a wreck! Who's in charge here, anyway? Need to get me a couple of marine angels, get this place spick and span in no time! You know, now that I think about it, I don't seem to remember much about underground caves in the Bible. Not even in that new Bible they rewrote in 2040, with that big chase scene and that weird cameo by Ben Stiller. That guy's a nut. Wait a minute, afterlife? Underground cave? What if this isn't heaven? What if it's... no, it couldn't be! Could it? [Donut walks up]
Donut: Oh, hey, Sarge! What are you doing down here?
Sarge: It is! Oh, it is!

I think it kind of went a bit downhill when they decided to try to do a serious science fiction story instead of just goofing around. I still love the first two "seasons" though, to the point where I subscribed to them for a few years.

i've just watched from 2 to 9 that's some funny stufff. i love the bit about calling the jeep 'Puma' and Sarge dissing it and then the blue guy calling it a Puma...

RVB is absolutely hilarious! I've watched it a hundred times. I haven't remembered to d/l any of the new series yet though; I'm on dial-up and it's a hassle.

My favorite seasons were 2 and 3. 1 was definitely struggling, but 2 and 3 are just jam packed with hilarious bits and more importantly a good story with plot and action. 4 was... good... but meandered a little. 5 was... good. But 2 and 3 were the best.

My favorite character was definitely Caboose followed by Sarge.

Caboose: Tucker, are you hun-gar-y? Tucker, are you cold? Do you want a blanket? Tucker, do you want hot dogs in a blanket?
Tucker: No, Caboose, and if you put mustard in my sheets again, I'm going to kill you!

So this "Reconstruction" thing, is it with the old characters? New characters? It's not a comedy anymore? I'm confused.

Season 3 is when they're hanging around the windmill a lot, right? That seemed like a slow point to me.

Reconstruction follows Freelancer Washington ("Wash") (no, he hasn't been impaled yet), first introduced in the Recovery One miniseries. Over the 12 episodes so far he's recruited Caboose and Church to help him, and also run afoul of Sarge, Simmons, and Gryph. Oh, and there have been brief appearances by Sister and Doc.

The ongoing storyline is taken seriously, and Wash himself seems more competent than anyone in the original save Tex, but the old characters are still the old characters, with all that entails.
Washington: Look, there’s Caboose!
Church:
Is he dead?
Washington: Hold on, let me pull up the BioCom, check his pulse rate.
Church: Uh…you can monitor our vitals?
Washington:
I can check on the whole squad in combat, keeps me up to date. It doesn’t work on you for some reason…
Church:
Yeah? Um…I’m sure there’s a…perfectly logical explanation for that.
Washington:
We need to get to him, my HUD says he’s alive but hurt.(Church takes a shot at Caboose)
Church: How about now?
Washington: Stop that! …And you missed him.
Church: Fuck! Sun was in my eyes!
Washington: (spots South) Don’t let her get away!
Church: Her? Isn't she a Freelancer like you?
Washington: Yes! Just don’t let her leave!
Church: Okay! Caboose...
Caboose: Hello!
Church:
Hey, see that purple one? She’s on our team. You should help her.
Caboose:
Okay! (shoots into the firefight, missing the Meta and hitting South)
South: Son of a – (collapses)
Delta: Friendly fire!
Caboose: Um…she got in the way when I was trying to help her…
Church: (to Wash) Okay, we’re good!

RVB: Reconstruction is still a comedic series, despite its new, serious and dramatic storyline. It's more tautly shot with dynamic camera angles, flashy effects, and more cinematic-like editing. New soundtrack too.

Instead of a pure comedy like the first series, its more of a drama infused with comedy now.

And I love it! The storyline actually looks like it's going somewhere, whereas the old series' storyline was very random.

*ever loudening dukes of hazard/mariatchi music starts playing druing omega's evil monologue* Omega: WHAT THE HELL IS THAT NOISE? *reds in the 'hog tear-ass through all the omega copies*

That was actually Wyoming, not Omega, as I recall.

Anyway, just saw the final episode of Red vs Blue: Reconstruction. Consider my mind blown.....

Now apparently they're ramping up to do an animated (non-Halo-based) Red vs Blue series?!
