Red Shirts Always Die?

Also, I think the perception that red shirts are more likely to be killed is because people saw more red shirts killed over the course of the series. Nobody was really calculating percentages, they were just counting total deaths. All we saw was a red shirt dying, not that 3 red shirts survived.
I think you're totally right - MORE red shirts die, so it feels like they die all the time (especially given the shocking, glamorous deaths during the first "red shirt massacre" in "The Apple"). I totally understand the sentiment, and how the "meme" of red shirts dying came about. I just asked myself "what about the red shirts that SURVIVE?" and I thought it'd be a fun experiment to run the statistics for it.

YELLOWSKIRT TOS CREW FATALITIES: Zero

(At least on camera.)

Good point! Yellow-wearing women are totally safe. Women in general are pretty safe on the Enterprise, granted they avoid getting turned into blocks of minerals or catching advanced aging diseases.
