Red Shirt (Short film)

I’ve just seen this short film. It’s about a security officer from the U.S.S. Farragut who wakes up on an alien world having survived an attack. It is visually quite interesting.

From the uniforms and weapons I am assuming that it is set within the J.J. verse. I’m guessing that as the Farragut was destroyed by the Narada (Star Trek 2009) it is either set before then or it’s a newly commissioned ship with the same name.

Well, you gotta give 'em credit for trying something a little different, even tho it ends up feeling like a lot of Star Wars fanfilms what with lots of running around and action in service of the no real story.

It's got a modern look, desaturating all but a few colors, which makes it look a lot different from most Trek fanfilms, but not really that different from a lot of what's on TV.

It's not edited tightly, so it feels overlong and fails to build any suspense.

Sadly, and typically, the volume levels are all over the place. The dialogue is too low and it's hard to hear what's being said. The whole film sound like it's been dubbed, and the lip sync is off throughout.

And look, only the Vulcan man can be bothered to shave. Seriously, the guys in it sport maybe a week of stubble. Just. Shave. It grows back.

The VFX are mostly okay, but the explosions on ol Redshirt''s heels are kinda hilarious because the camera is tilting all over the place and the 'splosions ain't.

This has reminded me of another fan production also set in the J.J Verse,
'Red Shirts' (Parody) :)

What is strange is how this production, released back in 2013, features an unstable lightsaber blade, not that dissimilar to Kylo Ren’s (without the vents of course). Perhaps J.J. got his inspiration from this! :rommie:
