Recommend some books...

I'm relativly new to reading Star Trek books even though I've been a longtime Star Trek fan. Are there any good books that any of you would recommend I start with that won't leave me dazed and confused?

And if there's a thread like this already here please direct me to it.

For a solid stand alone story that's that's pleasantly thick in word count, I recommend to you Q-Squared by Peter David.

If you like TOS I recommend reading the Crucible Trilogy especially the McCoy one.

Personally, my favorite recent work is the DS9 relaunch, the first four books (and one short story) of which have recently been republished as Twist Of Faith. So that's 4+ books in one trade paperback, all of which are absolutely phenomenal.

Though if you didn't dig DS9, that's probably not up your alley.

If you've watched Enterprise and want to see a continuation of that then The Good That Men Do might be an possible book to read.

If you like Voyager, then the String Theory trilogy is excellent.

Also, each series (exluding ENT) has a decent anthology out:

TOS has Constellations
TNG has The Sky's The Limit
DS9 has Prophecy and Change
VOY has Distant Shores

Yeah, it's a good one.

I'm having trouble remembering a specific title, haven't read an ST book in years, although I was SERIOUSLY hooked on them when I was 12-16 or so. I read every TNG book available at the library and bought every other one I could find. Read a ton of TOS too.

Oh, I quite liked Best Destiny, if you're into TOS.

If you're a TNG fan you really should check out the 9 part A Time to... series. I didn't read the first two myself so I can't tell you about them, but the other 7 range from ok to amazing. There is also a bunch of stuff that follows up on the series, but for a newbie that would probably be a good place to start.

Another vote here for the Crucible trilogy. And anything by Christopher L. Bennett, who puts the real science back in Trek.

Me too. I remember going from reading Goosebumps and Animorphs to TNG books, and then gradually made my way up to the big boys like like Dune and Foundation. I do like to pick up a Star Trek book every now and then though.

The Star Trek Titan Series is the only ones I have been able to pick up and keep intrest.

I have read books 1 & 2 out of the 5. (4 are out, the 5th insnt out yet)

The USS Titan as you proably know is Captain Riker's ship.

The DS9 Relaunch is great. You can start with the first book, Avatar by SD Perry, but my personal favorite is Twilight by David R George. It's not to be missed!

If you want something a little different, then try New Frontier.

The first six or so are excellent (it starts to get a little weird after that).

"Once Burned" is my favorite Trek book. "Hollow Men" is good, too. But only if you've watched DS9 pretty regularly.

Imzadi by Peter David, as long as you're a Next Gen fan. It provides material beyond the scope of the show, without going so far out there that you'll feel lost. Great humor, too.

And if you like it.... Triangle: Imzadi Two is good too.

Thanks for your help. These seem like pretty good books. I'll be sure to look into some of them. I've already read Q-squared and the first two books in the "Time to..." series and they were, entertaining.

TNG and DS9 are my favorite series' by far. VOY, TOS, and ENT are good shows that I watch regularly but I probably wouldn't be to interested in reading any time too soon.

I'll be sure to read Imzadi, the DS9 relaunch (That sounds good), Once burned, hollow men, the Titan series, prophesy and change, the skys the limit, finish the Time to Series, The Crucible Trilogy seems good so I'll check that out, I'll also look into the string theory and the Vangaurd series.
