Hey, all...

I am a huge fan of the 1980's and 80's TV, having grown up on shows like Knight Rider, "CHiP's", Family Ties, etc. I would like to know if anyone here has a favorite movie from the early to mid 1980's they'd like to recommend to me, or if you like just tell me what your own favorite(s) is/are. Thanks.

Probably my favourite from that period is Back to the Future, though there are others I enjoy as well.

License to Drive

Corey Haim, Corey Feldman and a young Heather Graham. Nothing to go wrong there.

Tron seems an appropriate choice. i've always loved The Wonder Years, though that was more of a late 80s show.

My favorite 80's movies are Beetlejuice and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, though both are from the late 80's.

The Goonies
Ferris Bueller
The Breakfast Club
Top Gun
City Slickers
Big Trouble in Little China
Highlander

An American Werewolf in London
48 Hours
Weird Science
Airplane
Blues Brothers
Superman II
The Howling
The Shining
9 to 5
Urban Cowboy
Escape from New York

The Falcon and the Snowman
Ladyhawk
The Philadelphia Experiment
Streets of Fire
Fire with Fire

Blame it on Rio

Haha, i keep editing to add more that pop into my head

Wow... thanks, guys! That's a lot of them! Well, let's see... I own the Back to the Future trilogy, and both Airplane and Ghostbusters films, all of which I love. I also have both Cannonball Run films, and both National Lampoon's "Vacation" films... the first two. Oh, I also have both Short Circuit films, and Robocop. I used to have a huge crush on Ally Sheedy.

In terms of TV, let's see... these were my favorite shows of the 80's...

- Knight Rider
- "CHiP's"
- Transformers
- The Wonder Years
- Family Ties
- The Cosby Show
- Three's Company
- The Greatest American Hero
- Wonder Woman
- Little House on the Prairie (and I'm not afraid to proudly admit it, lol)

I also remember watching Silver Spoons, Small Wonder, and Punky Brewster, lol, as well as Alf and Mr. Belvedere.

The 1980s were the absolute best decade for movies and television. Here's just a few of my favorites....

Adventures in Babysitting
Amadeus
Back to the Future Trilogy
Batman
Beverly Hills Cop (I and II)
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
The Blues Brothers
The Breakfast Club
Coming to America
Commando
Crocodile Dundee
Die Hard
First Blood (I and II)
Full Metal Jacket
Ghostbusters (I and II)
The Goonies
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Innerspace
Pale Rider
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Predator
Return to Oz
Rocky IV
Scrooged
The Secret of My Success
Spaceballs
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Stripes
Superman II
The Terminator
Trading Places
The Untouchables
Weekend at Bernie's
Young Guns

- Little House on the Prairie (and I'm not afraid to proudly admit it, lol)

Always good to see another proud fan of Little House. :techman:

Hehe, thanks... yeah Little House was a remarkably well-written show. I still love watching it.

I also grew up on The Jetsons, W.K.R.P. in Cincinnati, the Dukes of Hazzard, and Magnum, P.I. :)

Man... I love the opening to Cannonball Run... and just look at the names in the credits... anyone who was anyone was in this film.

I'd have to say three of my favorites, which are:

Back to the Beach
Weird Science
Real Genius

The Golden Child -- I'm not a big fan of Eddie Murphy, and besides Beverly Hills Cop this is the only other of his movies that I like. But this is one of my favourites. The movie is full of unexpected things, that can only be explained as being 'magic'. They give it a delightfully mysterious and dreamlike feel. Charles Dance makes a decent evil nemesis throughout the story, although is a little disappointing towards the end.

Flight of the Navigator -- The beginning half of the film was superb. The latter half went a bit silly (it was a kids film). It really opened my imagination, and the special effects of the reflective shape changing spacecraft the likes of which I'd never seen before. I was conscious of the underlying theme of adults obsessing over control, while the child outwits them all and gets a taste of freedom.
