Recommend a Book

I'm not a huge Trek book reader, but I got an itch to read something Trekkie. Can anyone recommend a good book? Something, from the TOS era, but not involving all, or any, of the original crew. I like the Vanguard books; so a book in that spirit would be great.

Hmm... To Reign in Hell, perhaps? It's about the years Khan spent on Ceti Alpha Five between the TV show and the second film. The original cast is present in a framing story, but most of the action is focused on Khan and his eugenic colonists.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Another enjoyable TOS book without (much) of the TOS crew is The Case of the Colonist's Corpse: A Samuel Cogley Mystery.

the final reflection fills the bill too i think. maybe the romulan way.

[Shameless Pluggin']

A few of the SCE/Corps of Engineers e-Book novellas kinda sorta fit the bill, focusing on the 23rd century SCE crew (which also appear in the 2nd and 3rd Vanguard books):

Foundations - the paperback collects the e-Book trilogy. Introduces the Lovell gang. Scotty is the only member of the TOS cast to be featured.

Where Time Stands Still - recently collected in the Corps of Engineers: Creative Couplings omnibus. Also a sequel to the animated episode "The Time Trap."

Distant Early Warning - currently only available in e-Book format. A prequel to the Vanguard storyline.

D'oh! I should have put that in my original post, just forgot. I liked Foundations a lot. Haven't ready the other stories, I own Creative Couplings but so far I've only read the first story, so I can't endorse them but based on the track record of the authors I'm assuming they are worth reading. ;)

"The Romulan Way" Is one of my favorite novels, Star Trek or otherwise. I remember reading it when I was 12 or so, and just loved it. It only features one major cast member. Truly an excellent book!
