Recommend a Book From the Point of view from a visiting alien?

Are there any novels, books, or short stories that focus on the point of view from a visiting new alien to the Federation?. Or a new world being inducted into the Federation?

I think it would be interesting to read about an aliens first impression of the Federation

A lot of "Objective Bajor" is from an alien new to the federation's perspective, although it's not focused so much on their perspective on the federation in particular, but rather more generalised differences between how they and fed/bajorans/cards view things.

In The Final Reflection, Krenn's brief peeks at humanity and the Federation are fascinating. You're really seeing things from a different perspective.

But be warned, TFR was published prior to the debut of The Next Generation, and it's version of the Klingon Empire is very different from the one in TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT. IMO, it's far superior. And the novel's all-time classic.

I don't know if it's quite what you're looking for, but the Worlds of DS9 books feature human characters visiting the title planets. But just to warn you, they are a major part of the DS9 Relaunch, so they do deal with characters and stories introduced earlier in the series. I think if you wanted you could read them without any other books in the series, but it's best to at least know what you're getting into before you start them.
