Recently made science fiction movies involving space flight?

hey guys, does anyone know of some recently made movies involving space? i'm thinking recently made being from 2005-2010. i haven't seen any new movies at all. i'd love something similar to judge dredd with robots etc involved. doesn't have to be futuristic, but i'd prefer it.

doesn't have to involve space flight. just something furturistic and science fiction preferably with robots.

i really liked terminator 4 and judge dredd.

- Meet Dave (alien spacecraft in the shape of Eddie Murphy piloted by a tinier Eddie Murphy)
- The Day the Earth Stood Still (giant robot, alien spacecraft, nano-swarm, Keanu could also be counted as a robot)
- War of the Worlds (giant alien tripod walkers)
- Sunshine (massive spacecraft headed on a mission to the Sun)
- Superman Returns (Kal-El's spacecraft)
- The Fountain (flying imaginary tree in a bubble spacecraft)
- Zathura (house in space - like Jumanji in space)
- Robots (animated - I'm guessing there are robots in this)
- Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (robots, spacecraft)
- Fantastic Four 1 & 2 (space station, evil space cloud)
- Doom (Mars base)

I make no guarantee on quality on about 3/4ths of those.

Wikipedia lists scifi (and other genres of) movies by decade and year. The details about whether they have spacecraft and robots were just from memory of seeing most of them (or seeing the trailers).

Based off Locutus's list, some recommendations:

• Serenity -- the big-screen sequel to tv series Firefly; don't need to have seen show to enjoy film
• WALL-E -- Pixar; what else needs to be said?
• District 9 -- breath of fresh air when most movies are all the same; Neill Blomkamp is definitely a director to watch
• Moon -- pretty much the same sentiments as above & in relation to director Duncan Jones
• Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- tv show is good; movie sucked
• Sunshine -- I'm just a sucker for Danny Boyle
• Superman Returns -- it gets panned a lot but I quite enjoyed it
• The Fountain -- one of my favorite films of all time; directed by Darren Aronofsky, recently of The Wrestler and the upcoming Black Swan

Moon is another good one. And while not theatrical releases, several of the DC Animated films of the last few years, such as the new release Superman/Batman: Apocalypse involve spacecraft to a degree as well as robots.

What about TV series? Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica certainly fit the bill. (I'd recommend Farscape, too, but it ended pre-2005).

While I agree with that assessment, I don't see that there's any good reason to not watch Firefly.

While I agree with that assessment, I don't see that there's any good reason to not watch Firefly.

As one of those fans who was with Firefly from the very beginning, I think there's absolutely every reason to watch the show. Since I don't know if the OP has seen the show, however, I figured it wouldn't hurt to let him/her know that Serenity can be stand-alone (but, in my opinion at least, is even better with the series background).

nto a slasher flick instead of a story about reigniting the sun. And everybody died! I hate it when that happens. I will admit that the ending when the sun suddenly brightened made me smile, however.

Hmm...spaceships and or/robots...there's Transformers which is alright. Just don't bother watching ROTF (Rolling On The Floor laughing, indeed) and if you do, skip any and all scenes with dialogue or human characters.

Yeah, I saw it recently, too. Few things annoy me more than a movie that has a neat concept which then squanders it to tell a pedestrian and dull story, never exploring the potential of its premise. What the hell, Surrogates?

It also ends very abruptly.
