Recent TV Shows You Gave Up On.

Heroes...season one is the pinnacle of the show IMO gave up on it during season two, the writers strike didn't help it at all.

E.R. was one of the few shows I used to watch with my parents back in the day but stopped watching about two years ago. Don't mind that there isn't anyone from the original cast on the show but it has dragged on too long and will maybe catch the series finale next month or whatever.

I'm very close to dropping Smallville...last week's episode was the nail in the coffin for me...I realize that if you're on CW it is like you have a mandate to have drama but there is such a thing as over dramatization and not progressing your characters. The season finale will be it for me, have no emotional interest in a season nine whatever they plan on doing.

South Park...haven't watched it in two or three seasons, still like the show but my friend had all the DVD's and will be getting the 12th season soon so all I have to do is ask to borrow them and catch up. But I don't watch first air anymore.

Battlestar Galactica...the second half of season four has lost me...will check it out on DVD when it comes out but yeah meh.

I also gave up on Heroes.

Another ex-Hero here. I wanted to give up on LOST, (and arguably in some ways I have) but I can't seem to totally break the addiction.

I've pretty much given up on CSI once Peterson left. I quit Boston Legal a couple a seasons ago because I was tired of the political commentary.

I frequently work nights, and usually forget to set the VCR, so I end up unintentionally "giving up" on shows. This year I gave up on both the new Knight Rider and the U.S. version of Life on Mars. Between that and Boston Legal ending, I don't really even watch TV anymore apart from the news.

Like everyone else, I gave up on Heroes. I watched the first season, but when the first couple of episodes of season 2 came on, it didn't hold my interest any longer and I quit.

I also gave up on CSI: NY, although to be honest, I never really got into it to begin with. Just didn't like the characters. I've never been an every-week CSI watcher anyway, but even if I'm bored and flipping through channels I don't stop at CSI: NY, where I might stop at CSI: Miami if I'm in the mood. Not crazy about CSI (original flavor) either and don't watch it often.

I watched the first season of Torchwood, and stopped watching after that. Never really liked any of those characters anyway.

Stopped watching 24 a few years ago. I still like Jack and any of the other characters that were in season 1 (Tony, for example)...but I'm not crazy about the revolving door of other characters on that show.

ER is still on, but I've not watched it in years - midway through the season after George Cloony left. And that was about a decade ago.

Most of the other shows others listed in this thread I never watched anyway.

But I do watch nuBSG and Lost. Still like both of those. :)

Watching Grey's Anatomy too, although I'm gritting my teeth through this season and barely holding on. I'm hoping that both Izzie and George get written out of that show...and if they do, it might improve. We'll see. I had mixed feelings about Denny coming back. It was dumb to have him come back as a ghost...but it's always nice to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

ER---just couldn't bring myself to care after Carter left.

Survivor
--watched a couple of seasons, and then decided I shouldn't waste my time with that drek

Hell's Kitchen
---see above

I could easily give up on House, as nothing on that show every really changes, and the formula is soooo damn repetitive. But Hubby insists on watching it every week, so I do, too.

CSI--watched one or two seasons, off and on. Never really saw anything special in it, and just gave up. Never even went NEAR the off-shoots, either.

Ashes to Ashes---I loved, loved, LOVED the original Life on Mars on BBCA, and we have, um, somehow, all of the sequel on the PVR. We've watched about half the episodes but neither hubby or I have any interest in seeing the rest. It really was a crushing disappointment. The lead character is totally unlikable, and for some reason, despite being a very well educated professional, goes around dressed like a hooker on a daily basis, and gets stinking drunk every day. I really don't care what happens to her at all.

All of them!! Lost, 24, BSG, Smallville....99% of the stuff on tv sucks :klingon:

I don't really watch much tv

Sanctuary I've been checking since I like Tapping and its available for download
and if CSI is on tv I'll watch it. Not because I like it or anything, its just because its consistently average, very episodic and you're not going to be disappointed

everything else I've given up on :scream:

One more to add to my list.

House - Rather telling that I forgot about this one until now, because that's how I stopped watching this. About half way through season 5, enjoying it all right, then one day I just don't bother putting the next episode on. I guess I just didn't enjoy it enough for it to hold my interest.

The only show I gave up on this season was Fringe. I made it through the first three mediocre episodes and decided that I didn't care. The characters weren't compelling enough, and while the show isn't bad, it just doesn't have anything unique that really makes me want to tune back in.

I'm on the verge of giving up on...

Heroes. Like everyone else has already said, the show is a mess and has fallen so far from its excellent first season. I want to hang in there to see if Bryan Fuller can turn it around, but I'm not holding my breath.

Dollhouse. Each episode manages to get marginally better, but I don't feel any connection to the characters. I can't relate to a character who becomes a new character every week. There are some inherant problems with the show's concept that might make it difficult for viewers to care about Echo and the rest of the dolls.

^^ I almost gave up on Fringe too (and I never drop shows), but the last episode introduced what the show is REALLY about and it should prove ten times more interesting now, even if the main character is an utter bore.

Heroes I gave up on after the first couple of episodes of the current season.

I have the new season of 24 on my pvr, but haven't found the urge to watch it.

Fringe. I liked it well enough, but just could not justify it's slot in my TV time. If it makes it into a third or fourth season I may go back and catch up on it then.

I haven't given up on Heroes yet. The writing on the show can really be horrible at times, but I'm fairly invested in the characters at this point and want to see how the story turns out.

I give up on most shows! It's easier to list the ones I stick with. :rommie:

Bailed on:

My Own Worst Enemy - Christian Slater was charming in the main role but I couldn't get past the complete illogic of the premise.

Dollhouse - another ridiculous premise, but this time without even a worthwhile lead actor.

24 - It was inevitable that they'd start repeating themselves so much as to make the whole thing stale and boring and they've reached that point.

Damages - The first season was fun, but my inherent disinterest in the lawyer genre show has now driven me away. They would really have to jump through some serious hoops to hold my interest.

Fringe - Too much of an X-Files ripoff. None of the characters grabbed me.

Eleventh Hour - Too obviously aimed at a mainstream audience.

Knight Rider - Far too stupid.

Terminator - Quality production but hard to care about the events due to their lack of context. If I had more of a sense of the shape of the overall war - who plans to do what and where - maybe that could keep me watching.

Sticking with:

Heroes. Still love the characters and the premise and apparently it's doing well enough overseas to be protected from its own crappy writing driving off the audience in droves. Next Monday Bryan Fuller's episode airs - let's see if the new guy can turn things around. Somebody was responsible for the first season (did they suddenly forget how to write?) - it sure couldn't be the folks writing for the show now, so maybe it was the guy who left?

CSI - Never missed an episode until Warrick was killed off. I haven't watched since then.

Doctor Who - I didn't really like David Tennant anyways but when that ANNOYING redhead became his companion (Donna maybe?) I had had enough.

Other than that, I'm fairly loyal. I still love BSG, Heroes and Lost.

I'm generally a pretty loyal viewer. But there is so much good stuff on now that there isn't really the time to watch the mediocre or formerly-good anymore.

I've stopped watching Smallville, because it's become utterly repetitive, stale and dull. Once eye-candy Kirsten Kreuk and the show's best actor, Michael Rosenbaum, left, there was no reason to tune in any more. Sad, because for a season or two, it had a good claim to be the best live-action adaptation of the Man of Steel.

Heroes has totally disappeared up its own arse, with people dying, then coming back to life, being good, then bad, losing powers, getting them back. F*ck off! It's just too much - and I'm someone who never even gave up on Lost at its most self-indulgent.

The wife and I used to watch Ugly Betty but it seemed to be the same every week. Daniel appears to learn his lesson, then he doesn't. Mark and the dozy secretary show their human side, then they're back to normal. Betty returns to her ex, then to the specky accountant guy. Boooooring! Plus it doesn't need to be an hour long. It would have suited a 30 min sitcom format much better.

Brothers and Sisters. Watched it during the summer when there was nothing much else on. When season 2 aired, the good stuff had resumed. So B&S was superfluous to requirements.

Dirty Sexy Money. Quite liked season 1 and I probably would have watched S2 but for the fact that E4 is airing it at 11pm on Sunday nights. If Channel 4 shows it at a more manageable time, I'll probably tune in, even though it's been cancelled. I could Sky+ it, but to be honest, I'm not sure I'd ever get round to watching it.

BSG.

Dollhouse is happening pretty soon. If Eliza don't get nekkid soon I'm going to stop watching.

i gave up on heroes after the first episode, but then everyone kept talking about how great it was, so i watched up until speed girl got shot. i was never impressed with it, and now i just dont care.

dollhouse has one more episode, but i really dont care about it.

six feet under. i got tired of brenda and billy. i got tired of wishing the show would finally get all the right pieces in the right place at the same time (i liked the dad showing up, the deaths meaning something, ruth not being crazy, nate working, david working, claire being nice, fredrico working)

Heroes - Loved the first season, even though it didn't end up going where I was hoping. Season 2 was all right, but some things about it started to annoy me like some of the new characters. Mohinder also became way too much of an idiot. About 2 or 3 episodes into season 3, I realized I don't care about the show anymore.

Dollhouse - It's not terrible, but also not that great. I gave it three episodes, as there wasn't enough to interest me.

I don't really watch many shows anymore. Several, like Smallville, I gave up on years ago.
