Recasting of TNG with these actors & actresses>

Suppose, tad over a score ago, STPTB cast ST:TNG like this:

Ian McKellen as Captain Picard

William O. Campbell as Commander Riker

Eric Menyuk as Lt. Com. Data

Tim Russ as Chief Engineer LaForge

Katherine Ross as Dr. Crusher

I guess leave the rest pretty much the same as it is

What do you think this TNG'd been like?

Worse? The same? Better? No different? Unsure?

In the official ST Magazine from May 1999, it says W.O. Campbell was a Riker candidate, Tim Russ a candidate for Geordi, Menyuk considered for Data.

McKellen & Ross are my idea. Figured had Stewart & McFadden been unavailable, they'd been able to do a good Picard & Crusher.

To be honest, I can't see other actors in the roles. Picard will always have Patrick Stewart's face etc. I don't know whether it would have been better or worse. All I know is that all the years I spent in love with Commander Riker would never have happened, and that for me would have been worse.

Not that so much as histories that never happened.

Fun to think what the Trex are probably like in alternate/parallel universes.

They could be much worse, superior. or on the fence.

This reminds me. I heard Shelley Long was considered for Elaine Nardo on TAXI. Similar thing there. On some other level of probability, Long played Nardo & Marilu Henner ended up, God knows where

Henner probably wound up as Rebekah How on CHEERS in those universes. Not Diane, but Becky.

McKellan: No, I don't think he could have pulled off sci-fi.

Campbell: Definitely not. Watching him in Crime Story confirms he is not good enough to have a prominent role. Okona confimed this as well.

Eric Menyuk: Definitely, can't stand Brent Spiner.

Tim: Was and always will be Tuvok.

Katherine Ross: Who? Never heard of her.
