Rebooted Star Trek Prequel Series....???

I know how Star Trek: Enterprise was received back then and now, but seeing Star Trek Beyond piqued my interest...

They mentioned the canon that the transporter could only transport cargo... the fastest ship in the early days of the Federation was warp 4, and we fought the Xindi and Romulans.

The technology LOOKED like it was from a century before.... the Enterprise set that was made for the show itself was between a rock and a hard place for looking like our future and Trek's past.

It probably still wouldn't go over well, but I am more interested in most fans to see how Starfleet and the Federation began... I liked the last season of ENT and its various relaunch novels.

Actually, I think ENT would have been a better show had it taken place right after the Romulan War and the founding of the Federation, instead of ten years before. In that vein, it would also have been nice if ST: Discovery took place after the founding of the Federation instead of ten years before TOS. But we'll see how it goes.

Never gonna happen, because it must be poison to CBS. And Netflix too, otherwise Discovery would've been Enterprise Season 5 instead. But yes. I'd have liked an attempt to reboot the 22nd Century, in whatever form fresh minds thought it had to be to succeed. Enterprise is my favourite concept for a Star Trek spin-off, frustrated by having been made at a time the franchise was close to burn out and over-exposure. Beyond only really confirmed it for me. Based on other shows it's happened to, everyone ends up on the same page eventually. Individual cast members from the old continuity almost certainly end up guest-starring or with a semi-regular role on the reboot anyway. Either as the same character like Nimoy Spock or new role as Richard Hatch did in Battlestar.

I'd like to see a grittier 22nd century that really showed us the middle ground between the 21st and 23rd century and how we got to the enlightenment of Kirk's time. No view screens, phase(rs) or transporter, klingon, same theme music and direction.

Why wouldn't there be viewscreens? Yeah there's that line from BOT, but I don't think that means no viewscreens. Plus its a pretty silly idea, only in place for the Romulan-Vulcan reveal

I'd agree with @Dukhat.

The series would've been far better starting off in 2161, with the Romulan Wars over and the Federation just being created. It would offer far more scope for character development as this new mix of aliens must now start working together in ways they never thought before, whilst our heroes have to deal with the ramifications of the war and what emotional and mental scars they were left with as they now must regroup and rebuild. This would've worked as a good parallel to DS9 which showed us the hardships of war in the Trekverse, this Pre-TOS would be about the hardships of what comes after such a huge conflict. Even in this day and age, understanding and accepting those with 'alien' viewpoints is still something that needs to be worked on.

I'm probably in the minority of people out there who would've preferred the action to take place onboard a Daedalus-Class ship (there are some great fan redesigns out there, taking a somewhat goofy-looking vessel and making it into something really interesting looking). Whilst also limiting the technology employed, such as no biological transporters and slower ships. It would also be good to show that some of the 'standard' tech of later Trek also wasn't of human origin (photonic torpedoes were of Andorian design whilst Vulcans brought energy shielding to their new partners, etc).

Yes, I agree with @Dukhat and @Bry_Sinclair

At the time of Federation being create, There are a lot of potential story that can be dig. Distrust between the races, competition to become the leader of the Federation, the problem that arise when everyone work together in the same project, etc. Human, definitely won't become the top dog. Because they are considered as primitive compared to the other members.

Why would there be? What use does the first deep space starship have for viewscreens? If they had first contact with aliens in deep space why assume the aliens would have skype? Surely viewscreens are something would come later when there was a practical need for them. Before that it would be nothing more than a fancy window to see the blackness of space for the majority of the time.

I'm not entirely sure. I could certainly see the window being modified to support visual data readouts, such as science information, sensor information, etc. So, the question would become when visual communications became the norm, I think.

People like "windows". Might also be a good idea to know what's happening outside of your ship.
IIRC, the Mercury astronauts asked that a window be added to the capsule's design.

My version of Enterprise has (or should I say, lacks)some of these elements. It's the ringship design and it doesn't have a "viewscreen" but there are various displays on the bridge. I would imagine after 100 years of space travel we would have established some data formatting protocols among the more familiar species. But visual communication with an unknown alien species would probably be unlikely just because of the differing encoding and compression standards. AM or FM analog transmission would probably be the only thing in common but then you still have to learn their language (That's assuming they are equally or less advanced and don't use something beyond our capability).

I don't have transporters on my Enterprise not even for cargo. Everything is shuttles or docking and direct transfer. My design also doesn't have completely magical artificial gravity, but uses 1G acceleration.

In my version I'm going for a much harder sci-fi style, though I am making allowances for thinks like FTL travel and aliens having more "magical" treknology. I'm also reinterpreting many of the fan assumptions and "squishy" canon. For example, FTL travel will have become a lost technology by the time Zephram Cochrane (re)invents/discovers it. So it will be humans pushing the technology boundary in that area. That's what would really have given us our edge to bully our way to the top.

My version also has some of the social commentary stuff. There are things like humans having butted right into alien civilizations ("landing on the White house lawn" so to speak) and really F-ed up their cultures. It would be similar in some ways to what the Europeans had done in the Americas. But that would have mainly been in the past, so my version shows the ramifications of this and depicts the development of the philosophies behind the prime directive. It would also show the transition of humanity to the so-called "enlightened stage."

If my version was the real version I'm sure many people would complain that it "looks" too advanced to be a prequel to Kirk's era. But I've got that handled too.

You don't think a constant 1g acceleration over a long period of time is also kind of magical?

I never mentioned "constant" 1-g acceleration over a long period of time.

And even if I had, it would clearly be less magical than grav-plating, because there would be some aspect of physics behind it.

The early days of Starfleet and the Federation in the 2160s is one of the eras I'd love to see realized, and I did like the design of the USS Franklin, so yes, count me 'in'. Besides, anything set before Nero's incursion in 2233 could be, technically, both a prequel to the Kelvin Timeline as well as the Original Timeline.
