Reboot

AntonyF

It just occured to me how much reboot has passed into come venacular when it comes to changing movie and TV franchises.

But when I reboot my PC, it comes back the way it is.

What would be a more appropriate term?

Discuss.

And i got my hopes up thinking this would be a thread about the excellent Mainframe animation :(.

As for the new term, some would argue 'Ruin' would be a suitable discription for many reboots.

Rebirth.

But given that most entertainment reporters write their stories on computers these days, it's not surprising that the term "reboot" has become a catch phrase for any kind of return, relaunch, or retooling of an entertainment franchise, IMO...

Regurgitate, for the ones that make you mad because they vomit on the sacred memory of the original. BSG, for example.

Rejuvenate, for the ones that make something outdated and crappy seem cool and worthwhile. BSG, for example.

Everytime I hear the phrase "Reboot" I think of ReBoot.

Honestly I don't see the need for a phrase, just call it what it is: Battlestar: Galactica, Star Trek, Flash Gordon; and if you need to get picky, then add the year the series launched or something.

"Doing the same shit that someone else thought up, but with new people!" would be the best term. :p

I never had a problem with the term, when I reboot (not boot) my computer it's to get it functioning again after it's become stuck or broken.

Stealing the name and doing whatever you like with the story?
Retelling, because you're retelling the story?
Revision, because you've revised the original story?

"It's a remak.."
"A reinvisioning!"
"...of a classic"

People who go to vue cinemas in the UK with the orange ads right before the movie starts should hopefully appreciate this ;)

EDIT: And I'm another one who thought this thread might be about the CGI-animated show...:(

Saving Private Ryan's Number. Cineworld use the Orange ads too.
Can't pretend I didn't think it was the CGI show too.

Somehow I knew the second this topic was started that somebody would find a way to bring up that stupid show.

Face it, BSG is gonna be like B5 and Firefly. Nobody will ever be able to escape them round these parts. :D

As long as I get to bitch and moan when a rebooted Firefly with Captain Mal(lory) Reynolds is my daughter's (b. 2006) favorite show in 20 years.
