rebirth of the DeLorean... stage two.

That's a little more like it.

Yeah. It's a stainless steel Lamborghini with the DeLorean driver side window and original 80's head lamps.

I'd like to just point out here that John DeLorean did not design the DMC-12 himself. The car was penned by Giorgio Guigiaro of the Italian design firm Ital Design and engineered by some guys from Lotus' racing program.

So, anyone remember when that DeLorean nut restarted the DeLorean Motor Company in Texas with the mission of providing a one stop shop for maintenance for the existing DeLorean DMC-12, who then went on to use his warehouse full of all the OEM DeLorean parts to start build "new build" DMC-12's.

Well, seems like he's looking to expand his business a little further out of the extreme niche it's been... with the new DMC Solstice...

It appears that the DeLorean Motor Company is looking to buy the solstice design and manufacturing plant from GM: http://www.houseofboyd.com/archives/227

They even have a very early concept pic up and are inquiring about potential dealers.

That's a pretty good trick on John DeLorean's part---man's been dead for years.

I just saw on tv that a DeLorean (the car, that is) in good shape would cost around $25,000. Didn't matter if you bought it fixed or fixed it up. It'd total that. BUT, if you put in NEW parts (engine, I guess), it'd be about $40,000.

If I won millions in the lottery, I might be interested.

John Delorean died in 2005, he gave this guy permission to use the name back in95 with full permission and blessing, thus it became the texas based DMC, which is the one this thread is talking about.

I was going off the "he's looking to expand his business" part, not the "DeLorean Motor Company is looking to" part.

And it was not meant scathingly, but in jest. Sorry if it was interpreted wrongly.

It's called "Retro."
It's a kitbash.

As Trekkies, we should appreciate that. ;)

As a trekkie who is over 6' tall, I detest any car that doesn't take such heights into account in their designs.

DeLorean was 6'2" tall, he specifically had them design his "every man's sports car" DMC-12 to have an interior that could accommodate people up to 6'5" tall comfortably. Look at the "top" of the door, the part of the gullwing which sits over the driver/passenger's head. There is a "padded pocket" placed there specifically for head clearance.

The Lambo is hard for anyone over 6' to sit in with regard to head room, and any kit-bash of it would similarly be so.

So, thumbs down from this 6'4" tall trekkie, and I'm sure the 6'1" tall doc Brown would agree.. :p
