The rebels gear up for battle against the ruthless forces of the Motherworld as unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge — and legends are made.

PART ONE thread here.

The sequel to one of Netflix's worst movies is here. Zack Snyder was giving a blank check to do whatever he wants and this is what he ended up with. And now he's threatening the world with two to four more Rebel Moon sequels.

I just finished it and I enjoyed it.
It was more of what we got in Part 1, with lots of cool action and visuals, with some fairly interesting characters, and decent enough story to keep my interest.
While I wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't get more of these movies, I would definitely watch more if we got them.

Is it true that there are slow motion sequences of farming? I've read that but I'm not sure if it's parody or not.

I’ll repeat what I said about Part 1. A B-Movie story with a big Hollywood budget.

Everything looks good, the money is certainly on the screen. Snyder maintains his flare for action choreography and visuals.

I just don’t feel the juice was worth the squeeze. Part 1 and Part 2 could’ve been one 3 -hour long movie. Instead of two 2-hour long flicks.

The obvious twist/curve we can all see coming; happened predictably at the end of the movie. Just like the betrayal in part 1.

Everything Rebel Moon is trying to say, has been said already by other IPs. That being said, I certainly don’t think it earned the low critic rating it has on RT. It’s not the wasteland of an effort like Madame Web was. Rebel Moon is just generic, and that can be boring.

I’m sure they’ll be a part 3 next year or so. Rebel Moon’s fight for a unique identity will continue.

Slow motion farming is tight. I can't wait for the Snyder cuts of these movies to watch them.
Why am I waiting for the Snyder cut of this apparently already overly long film?

I learned with BvS and JL that Snyder's movies are much better in their long cuts. When his movies are pared down, it seems like it is actually story elements that are removed and in both examples above, so much story is removed that it left me scratching my head.

So, yes, I'm hopeful that the longer cuts will be better received.

I'm writing the screenplay for Rebel Moon 3. It's going to start with an injured character who has to wear a cast. Normally it takes him 45 seconds to get out of bed and go to the bathroom, but with his injury it now takes him six minutes. But we're going to do the entire sequence in slow motion so that it fills out the first 13 minutes of the movie.

My Review of Rebel Moon Part 2

So a super brief review, but from the looks of responses (or lack thereof), that might not be a big deal.

….
The joke about Zack Snyder and Slow Mo continues. He even does it to make harvesting grain look “kewl” (written immediately after I saw this on the screen – my first big reaction!

But those scenes, plus lots of tech that looks like from earth in the 1970’s, as well as the European instruments in the royal family’s death scene. It almost feels like these were cost saving measures, to make this affordable… like a trick a Roger Corman-type of movie might need.

So in the info dump for the motivations for the rest of the characters -- All of the warriors WANT revenge , and that’s why they fight??? Nemesis cut off her arms, and THAT is when she became a warrior? And the handsome shirtless guy was literally Prince Charming??? And how did he become a super warrior slave? I dunno – seems kinda incongruent with his part 1 appearnace.

What I liked about Battle Beyond the Stars was the variety of reasons people chose to fight. Also, their reasons are spread throughout the movie, not just in one short segment.

I did like the personal gifts given , to give each of the warriors some personality and reason to care about the people. But they really weren’t referred to again. Necklaces might have been better so one or two can hold one before they die. (Which amounted to just 2 deaths, really, 1 from the Moon and 1 from the recruits… and Ray Fisher, the major death from the previous movie, had a short cameo).

OK, the training…. So all the villagers are natural warriors? Most movies at least show some kind of learning curve.

They set up that the grain was laid out so the soldiers would NOT fire (which was smart and logical, actually), but then they decide to fire weapons after all?

So the Dreadnought is powered by hand shoveled coal???

Hand cranked cannons that manually aim?

They definitely set up a sequel….but will anyone really want it?

I noticed that Zack Snyder was also listed as Director of Photography…. I can see it as his passion…

When an inevitable remake comes…. I think there is lots here that is good. I mean, just like the DCFU…. Lots of creativity and excellent elements, but

Definitely visually stunning in a lot of ways.

For me, The “liquid light” effect I thought was original and well done, as well as the “motion echoes” of the laser swords.

Over all – not a great movie…but just another example of how Zack Snyder does indeed have some GREAT ideas and can do some AMAZING visuals … as I mentioned, his role with director of Photography. But MAAAAAAAN he need a good partner (like the Matrix needed BOTH siblings).

I am nominating Zack Snyder for an Ex-Lax commercial...and make that situatoin into a 3 hour ordeeal due to slow motion.

If directors Zack "slo mo" Snyder and Olivier "15 cuts in 6 seconds" Megaton ever collaborated, what would the end result be?

Awesome. I look forward to it.

I forgot about the first part. It wasn't the worst sci-fi movie I saw, but it wasn't particularly memorable.

Don’t forget the scene is shot in 4:3 format with a chapter name

“The Anchor”

I didn't mind most of the slow mo, but the slow mo grain harvesting was definitely a bit excessive.

I've seen a few reviews and comments online that do indeed confirm that there is a slow motion shot of people farming; followed by a lot of 'WTF' responses.

I admit, that whole sequence struck me as kind of funny, unintentionally. Action farming! :rommie:

I also found Nemesis' backstory a bit confusing - was there a reason she chopped off her arms to use the tech ones? Is that the only way to use them or did she decide to use them that way?
