Reasons for sanitized TNG Companion vs. honest DS9 Companion?

As for Brannon Braga, my respect for him went up immensely after I listened to the Generations DVD commentary. He seemed to be the primary critic of all the technobabble, and he was very honest (moreso than Moore, at least on the commentary track) about the mistakes that were made.

As for Richard Arnold, he gets trashed a lot around here. I've never met him, but from what I've read it seems that he was only carrying out Gene's orders most of the time. It looks to me like Gene would delegate the "dick moves" to him so Gene wouldn't look like the bad guy.

And here I was thinking that Zefram Cochrane's Companion appeared on TNG and DS9 and I missed it.

My two favorite behind-the-scenes books are the Deep Space Nine Companion and Jill Sherwin's Sailing the Slipstream which covers the tv series Andromeda. I like both of these becasue they are pretty honest warts and all looks behind the making of science fiction television.

Richard Arnold came out here for a convention a couple of years ago, and said that she was flat-out fired originally, and that there were plans to hire a third doctor when Berman got rid of Muldaur. However, when Roddenberry returned from holidays, he was so incensed at the Muldaur's firing (being a friend/fan of hers), he ordered the re-hiring of McFadden to punish Berman.

It's a bit of a convoluted story, but I've learned that few things are too far-fetched when it comes to office politics.
This story is completely contradicted by the story that McFadden herself told at Trek Expo a few years ago, where she indicated (she didn't name names, but there was little doubt) that it was Maurice Hurley who didn't like her and had her fired, and when he departed after the second season ended, she was hired back.

I don't know which account is true, or if either is, but if it's a choice between believing Richard Arnold and believing Gates McFadden, I'll go with McFadden. (Then again, if it's a choice between believing Richard Arnold and believing Tommy Flanagan, I'll believe Tommy.....)

I've always been under the impression that Berman was a huge supporter of bringing Gates back into the TNG fold. IIRC, interviews at the time had Berman being the one against hiring a "third doctor" and wanting Crusher to return to the Enterprise.

Weren't there also rumors of Hurley harassing McFadden in the first season?
