Reap The Whirlwind back in print? (here we go again...)

Regular visitors I'm sure know by now that the Mass Market Paperback release of Reap The Whirlwind, the third and debatably most important novel in the phenomenal Vanguard series, is out of print due to an ISBN listing mistake, and no one at Pocket has the will or ability to fix it.

After getting used to that depressing news, a random trade paperback version was announced, which seemed silly and indeed was - David Mack quickly confirmed that it was an error.

For some reason, though, that listing hasn't gone away (though the release date has slipped later and later) and now:

Amazon lists it as "in stock"!

So - what the hell?

The listing also gives an ISBN different from both the mass market and library binding editions.
 
That one had one of my favorite works of cover art...glad I bought it while it was in print! It's so pretty to look at. Fantastic on the inside too.
 
Well, but, the imaginary release date is in november, so that doesn't make sense either.
 
For what it's worth, the local Border's shows that Reap the Whirlwind will be available in November (in a mass market paperback edition) listed at $29.95! :wtf:
 
...and in the last couple hours, the Kindle version of that book has disappeared from Amazon, too.

What the hell, seriously.
 
I just checked and it is still up as a Nookbook, and as an ebook at S&S. So whatever caused Amazon to take it down, it was just them.
 
The Kindle version of this is back and properly listed. I suspect the system fubar'd it and they had to fix it. Paperback version still listed at $20.15 which I do not understand.
 
I'm tempted to order it just to see what happens, but since I already own the MMPB and Kindle versions, it seems a little excessive, haha.

I did order it, and it arrived today-- so it DOES exist.

It's a print-on-demand trade paperback -- the trim size is about 5" x 8", but the text is still the same size as it was in the MMPB, leaving about an inch of margin on the top & bottom, and about 3/4 inch on the edge.

So kids, don't pay more than $27.99 for a beat-up MMPB copy of Reap the Whirlwind when you can get a POD copy for a grossly inflated price...
 
So if this one is real then it probably means the others are too. I don't remember what they were but there were quite a few of them.

Perhaps S&S has gone to a strategy of making PODs out of books that don't sell enough to be reprinted in MMPB?

I wish the price wasn't so high; I'd like to pick up a few others, but damn! these are pricey.
 
Well, it doesn't surprise me that a print-on-demand book would cost more than a mass-produced book, just as a matter of the economy of scale.
 
Hmm, I wonder if these are succesfull if that means they'll do more. It could be an opportunity to finish up reprinting the DS9R.

No question.

However, a more than three-fold increase in price is hard on the wallet.

Weirdly, the other presumed POD title, WoDS9 #3, is slightly more reasonable at $21.99.
 
Funny, saw this used in a local book store for $4 today. Was going to tweet a picture with a caption "Seems to be not so hard to find." :cool: :p
