Reading Derailment

I read DS9: Warped when I was a kid. I vaguely recall some sort of animal abuse involving a turtle, and I'm pretty sure I represses the rest. That was a real WTF book, as I recall.

I just re-read Crossover, which I remember disliking the first time through (I was bored and I found it in a box, what can I say?) The scene where half of Spock's followers stage an escape attempt, and he and his fellow prisoners "stand witness" as they do it made zero sense to me. Half of the prisoners stand in a line staring at the other half, and nobody says "WTF?" As it happened, the Romulans already knew about the attempt, which Spock figures out a few seconds before it all goes down. Rather than just say out loud, "Dudes, they know", he watches half his followers get mowed down. The Romulan governor then comments about how now the other prisoners will have "learned their lesson" - which he taught by killing HALF HIS PRISONERS?!
That book had some serious, major problems.

I'd say more than half the Trek books I read, even the really good ones, have a huge WTF?! moment.

Usually it's just little details that I find ridiculous or doesn't jive with my take on the universe.

The majority of the reporter plot in Beneath a Raptor's Wing

Pretty much anything Mike Martin writes on his own. I was terribly disappointed in Beneath the Raptor's Wing, The Needs of the Many and Seize the Fire. He needs to get back to writing with Andy Mangels ASAP.

The most recent WTF if in Seize the Fire when it was said that Hawk was killed by the Gorn when he was really killed by the Borg. Just one small line that made me stop and go WTF. I have since fixed the eBook so that's no longer an error. But it was when I read it the first time. So if I ever reread, I won't be going WTF.
Same here. I know it was probably just a typo, but it sucked me out of the narrative.
