Re-Imagined Klingon Bird-of-Prey

Patrickivan

The nacelle revision looks good, personally I think it could be a tiny touch longer in the back. Peronally, I think be better to use the grille (magnatomic flux-chillers) design similar to that used on the old D-7 design. I'm also wondering about the front of the nacelle. The D-4 design has kind of a slanted leading-edge (from the profile it is kind of swept) -- it would look more aggressive.

BTW: You do plan to cover up the whole bridge section (the lower rear section is kind of uncovered and kind of clunky looking), right? Also when do you plan to add the chine to the sides of the bridge-section.

I did this quick little sketch... I had to draw it because paint just work well with complex curves and shapes. I think it's going in the right direction.

Patrickivan,

I have a few recommendations. The first has to do with the chine on the ship's bridge-section.

I've drawn out to the best of my ability what I was illustrating

The three drawings depict (from left to right) a rather poor attempt by me to draw the "head" of the Klingon BoP, the chine shape desired as added onto the BoP's "head", and a side drawing which illustrates the desired smooth shape of the BoP's head with Enterprise-B type chines wrapped around it.

This image is actually probably a better one, I printed out your BOP drawing, then drew in the requested additions, a filled in chine.

The second has to do with the wing-design. I really do not like the inboard leading-edge wing-sweep being different than the rest of the wing. It deviates too far from the BoP design.

While the curvature of the wing looks nice, it looks actually a little too curvaceous. I prefer a little bit of faceting like an earlier proposal I made.

It looks more streamlined than the D-7, but it still looks more like other contemporary Klingon vessels (D-7/K'Tinga).

The pylons seem to be almost nonexistant on this design. The BoP had much more pronounced wing-tip pylons. I preferred the larger pylons (I just didn't like the guns hanging off them)

Patrickivan,

Don't worry, you don't have to rush, you told me your kids are taking up a lot of time on the computer.

About two or three years ago I played with the BoP design wanting something more Romulan, this is the result (please forgive the lousy cell phone pics, my digital camera has died the death...)

CDR-6.

If you've ever played the PC-Game "Star Trek: 25th Anniversary" or "Star Trek: Judgement Rites", it looks a lot like an Elasi Pirate vessel.

It isn't the design I'm going for, but your design is quite exceptional. I really like it.

Nope, never played either of those games. My design was a homage to the original BoP from "Balance of Terror" and Diane Duane's "Bloodwing" from her Romulan books.

When I built this I do recall asking myself some of the questions you did with your reimagining... Great minds, same gutter, I guess.

The poor thing has languished in a box, broken and some pieces having fallen off, untill your thread. I had to root through my stuff (den and garage) to find it and super glue her back together for the pics. I am still missing one of my impulse engines so they did not get get put back on. Anyway, thanks for creating the imputus to bring her back to life...that and get my camera fixed.

Regards,
Chuck

CDR6, I dig your ship... It does have that TOS Romulan feel to it. I tried that configuration with my K'Tinga forward wing kitbash into a Romulan ship and half regret not sticking with it. I just find that for the sake of the Star Trek universe, keeping certain design elements for various races or cultures, maintains a visual continuity, regardless of how real life may work.

The fun with the Klingon and Romulan technology exchange is how we can interpret each race's use of that technology.

Thanks for the kind words, muchly appreciated. Speaking of the race's technology, I like the Romulan take on their ships.

I think it was in Ms. Duane's my "My Enemy, My Ally" where she mentions that the Romulan crews paint their ships so they would have a "soul" of sorts (can't remember the Romulan word for it).

They decryed the Klingons export D-7 as not being very good structurally and systems wise. But gave their engines and weapons high marks. Hence I painted the "feathers" and did "eyes" (lifted from one of my P-40 kits) on the head. Sadly, they only show up as as white blobs in my poor photos.

Overall, I went with a less tired look as I view the Romulans as a professional service and hence take time for up keep and maintenance on their ships, or "spit and polish" as the navy types would say.

It took lots of dry fitting, extra greeblys and some scratch building, mixed with a lot of time to get it to look right...

I'm aweful... I drew up some nacelle and connecting wing, as well as a more integrated head section as per your drawing. But by the time the kids got off, I just don't feel like scanning, saving in wordpress or photobucket, AND linking it here... I'll do it soon. I will point out that I'm not liking the head section as much as THE BoP.

I'm so frustrated that I also can't use Google Sketch up to help me design some stuff because my comp is SO freaking slow!(&#!(@&*#!. Stupid windows Vista. I have an Acer Aspire AM1100-E1401B; LE1640 AMD Athion 64 processor; 1 GB DDR2 memory; 160 GB sata hard drive; super mulit-drive... If you know a way that a computer illiterate Packled like myself can make it go faster, I'd appreciate it! And I don't mean internet, I just mean to run programmes without serious lag. Like a delay in typing in WP!:klingon::klingon::klingon:

sorry:(

Quadruple your RAM for starters. You might also want a beefier video card as well.
