RDM developing Wild Wild West remake

Yes, ANOTHER remake! :rommie:

If Moore's WWW has the steampunk elements of the original, and I hope it does, this is the right forum for this.

The source material — which combined the romance of the Old West with some pre-steampunk sci-fi gadgetry and added some witty banter and fisticuffs — still has some juice in it, even if there hasn't been a western series on network TV since Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Moore is still in the thick of developing his take on The Wild Wild West; it could be a while before he's ready to pitch it to networks. Let's just hope he's leaving out the giant robot spider.
No no no! The world needs more giant robot spiders!

Reporting FAIL

The genre you're looking for is Weird West, y'know, the same genre that Brolin Hex just butchered to death this summer?

Of course, given that RDM is contemplating this, we may again get the privilege of watching the "master storyteller" present scripts that would have been laughed out of the VOY staff meetings.

I just hope Moore goes for the fun and whimsy of the original this time. Enough with the gritty, cynical reboots.

But a full-on steampunk series would be a nice thing to have on TV.

I just hope Moore gets to do something original again--Virtuality had a lot of promise.

Yet another thing that was right the first time, and doesn't need to be remade.

Very often with these remakes, the success of the original was lightning in a bottle - a one-time thing based on the right combination of actors, time period, etc.

This sounds like fun, and as a big fan of RDM's I'm looking forward to it.

Just because something is a popular hobbyhorse with a cult following doesn't make it a "classic." WWW is a memorable, minor TV series of the 1960s. Go ahead and recycle it.

Crucify me if you must but I love the 1999 movie. It's dumb fun and it was funny. Will Smith and Kevin Kline were just hilarious together. The action scenes were cool. I liked the giant robot spider. Kenneth Branagh was funny as the outrageous villain. I recall it was the first movie I'd seen after being as a dog that summer so it was so much fun just to go out to the movies.

I'd love a full-on steampunk series. The only one I know of right now is The Adventures of Jules Vernes, and that tends to be rather corny.

Once again, Ron Moore is at the cutting edge of Hollywood unoriginality. :rommie:

Originality is in the execution, not the concept, as Moore demonstrated clearly with BSG. It was the same title and premise, but wildly unlike the original show or anything else on television. Really, I get so tired of the unoriginal claim that remaking something is intrinsically unoriginal.

^ Yeah, especially when a genre like Steampunk is so rarely made. There's room for it to be fresh enough as to feel original.

I'm doing NanoWrimo this year and my genre is Steampunk. Got a good story idea and I'm sticking with it.

I only approve if they can lure George Clooney away from movies and back to TV to play Jim West. Worst thing they did in making the '99 movie was getting Sonnenfeld; it was his insistence on using Will Smith (even Will was hesitant about the idea) that ruined what had actually been a pretty decent script before they had to change it to make it a Will Smith vehicle.

Why they didn't agree with George to cast him as Jim (they wanted him as Artie! Can we say NO!!!), I will never understand.

PS: I'm doing steampunk for my NaNo, too!
