Ray's TAS shuttlecraft...

Yes, that is the place. I hold you designs in the highest regard and it was on his site. Yes, Phil Broad and cloudster. I was not trying to cause any problems. My bad.
No worries. If it had been someone hosting the drawings without permission I would have been grateful for finding out.

I was watching your back and the work that you do, which is fantastic.

A similar incident happened to a friend of mine and he was not a happy camper. I personally laid into the thief and ripped him a new one. I do not care for thiefs, that is why I hold your designs with such high regard because there is a great deal of work and thought that goes into these drawings, I know personally because I am work on my own and things have to make sense and work within the Star Trek universe.

Cheers,

Okay, I stepped up and paid for the upgrade of Maxwell Render so I could do higher resolution renders and shots. Here are the first couple.

Seeing it more properly rendered in 3D I can note some of the small things I want changed next time around, but overall I'm pleased particularly for a first effort.

It's nice quality for a first model, no doubt about it. Now it's time to move on to your second model and make this one look weak and poorly crafted. Your best model is always the next one.

Thanks. Besides finishing this one off with a little tweaking of details I'm a bit torn about what to do next:

- Heavy Lander (from TAS' Mudd's Passion)
- TOS Class F Shuttlecraft
- Heracles-class Star Clipper (my original design for a pre TOS 22nd century starship)

How about something original? It's good practice to make something from blueprints, it forces you to learn tools you might not otherwise use, but it's often more fun to make your own creation. It's a bit of freedom from the strictures of copying minute details.

Well, the TAS shuttlecraft basically are my designs since they're only conceptually similar to what was seen onscreen. But the 22nd century starship is mine whole cloth. While there are design cues familiar to Trek designs it certainly not like whats been seen there. It's particularly different than ENT's NX-01.

I drew this about fifteen or so years ago. I have some ideas for updating it.

I've always liked this idea. I also envisioned it as a flexible platform that could be adapted to other purposes. The top two variants are essentially the same thing, a deepspace survey ship with an attachable cargo module for occasional situations. However, you could have a variant devoted primarily to transport duties while also able to haul large large bulk cargo modules. The last version is essentially a medical ship/transport with medical support modules that can be moved from place to place. Think a space faring M*A*S*H of the 22nd century.

I always liked modular designs, it makes a lot of sense for knocking out specialised ships for a lot less effort than making each individual ship a specific design. The Eagle from Space:1999 is always my goto there. You should go for it, update this thing and give it a whirl.

I was studying the above ship on a printout yesterday. I still really like it after all these years. It looks more rudimentary than the TOS era and yet it still seems to fit in evolutionary wise. Regarding modifications I'm thinking in terms of detailing because I still like the overall concept and proportions. I think it retains good visual balance.

I once thought of writing a story set in the 22nd century and featuring the U.E.S. Swiftsure and tying it in loosely to the TOS era. The framing sequence could have been one of the TOS characters reading about the event historically or as a dramatized piece of fiction. The gimmick has been used before in Trek fiction in both John M. Ford's "The Final Reflection" and Margaret Wander Bonanno's "Strangers From The Sky."

These are of the raw model. I'm still working on renders that I'm happy with.

Man, well done!! Your patience with Sketchup has really paid off.

Now, this makes me feel that much more sick to my stomach for not having the patience yet. :)

I do have a suggestion that was made to me about a renderer to play with - Kerkythea. It's free, and doesn't have image size restrictions like Maxwell.

It is quite full-featured, and I think there is a Mac version of it.

Agreed!! We artists have to stick together!

Those are awesome! Great work. I love all the angles you've posted. Gives a good all around feel to the ship. I love it.

Incremental progress. I hope to be able to soften the transition between the two intersecting curved surfaces, the bow section and the forward bulkhead(viewport area).

Slowly taking shape. There's one part I'm not really happy with (where the viewport bulkhead meets the forward section) and I might try to repair it later. The curved transition between the two surfaces isn't as good as it could be. Admittedly it's challenging because we're talking about two compound curved surfaces intersecting---loads of fun. (-:

Generally. though. I'm pleased with how this is taking shape. It's interesting seeing this design coming to life in three dimensions. Some of the shapes and different viewing angles can challenge your expectations. And it does have something of a truck like look to it. (-:

Some progress. This is the main hull mostly done. I just want to try fixing that small area I mentioned upthread (where two compound surfaces intersect). This looks weird without the landing supports and engines added on. But then I think it will always look a bit weird given its shape.
