Rating the 1st Ten

I'll spell out why I liked Nemesis....

-Because despite its many flaws, it FINALLY looked like a big screen movie, and not a two hour television episode like the first three Next Gen movies did.

-Because it kicked ass in the action department, and didn't blow its wad in the first ten minutes like First Contact did.

-Because it had Picard driving an armed dune buggy, and looking for a moment like he was actually having fun. (also because that scene makes all those pretentious know it alls who think they know Picard, and what he will or will not do, cringe and squirm uncomfortably. Sorry, only the writers and Patrick Stewart know what Picard will and will not do.).

- Because the last half of the movie was one big assed space battle....full of effects and external shots too, not just two effects shots and the rest being internal shots with a bunch of dialogue and camera shaking to simulate hits. "They're firing again, sir!", "Return fire!", "Weapons firing, sir!" for the other 90 percent of the battle.

-Because of the shootout on the Enterprise. Didn't care for how they got the extra decks, but that didn't bother me either.

-Because it also has my favorite score of all the Next Gen movies...from the uptempo opening moments, to the space battle, to the end credits theme that was made/or restored for the home video release. The late, great Jerry Goldsmith's finest Star Trek score since TMP in my opinion.

In terms of story, and some tech areas, Nemesis was deeply flawed. As a kick ass two hour action movie for Star Trek, it rocked.

It is the only TNG movie I liked, and one of only 3 of the first 10 Star Trek movies I liked at all.

Vger23, I am right there with you. Just wanna enjoy a good action movie....especially if it is Star Trek. Great movie? Not by any stretch. Enjoyable and escapist? You betcha.

Fonzob1, welcome brother. We have been expecting you. :)

From Best to Worst

TUC
FC
TWOK
NEM
TSFS
TVH

*GAP*
INS
GEN
TPM
TFF

^ I don't even watch the last 4 anymore.

The worst part is that I always watch them all, it's kinda like a ritual. All twelve of them each time. Same thing with the bond movies. When I watch them it's in chronological order, I even include the parody with Woody Allen and the "French one" "Never Say Never Again"...

I've been known to binge on the original Universal MUMMY movies. (The old black-and-white ones, not the new ones with Brendan Fraser.) AND I rewatched the original CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON trilogy this summer.

Showing my age, I know.

So you understand how I feel then.;)

1- The Undiscovered Country
2-The Final Frontier
3-The Voyage Home
4-The Search for Spock
5-First Contact
6-The Wrath of Khan
7-The Motion Picture
8-Insurrection
9-Nemesis
10-Generations

8-10 are essentially tied. If they were typical Trek, I wouldn't be a Trekker.

3,4,5,6 embody elements that I love about Trek, and I do not buy the odd/even theory. TSFS is a good, solid Trek, and a great tale of loyalty. TFF is terrific fun & see what Shatner was doing. It has its place.

I own the 2-disc SE's of each but have no intention of watching Generations ever again. Everything about it makes me ill.

@Bold
How and why would you torture yourself like that?

Well, it contains some fun parts. Plus it's a completion thing, if you see what I mean.

Ok, my personal order then:

1- The Wrath of Khan
2- The Undiscovered Country
3- The Voyage Home
4- The Search for Spock
5- First Contact
6- The Motion Picture
7- Generations
8- Insurrection
9- The Final Frontier
10 -Nemesis

(8 to 10) are a close call.

I like the "Mata Bond" sequence in the original Casino Royale and the soundtrack is fun . . . but, yeah, it's a mixed bag.

Imagine being surrounded by a roomful of people that look like they might be hooded monks....but somehow the realization is other.....and follow the "We have been expecting you" with a sinister and disembodied laugh. :). (as in MUA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!)

Lol.....it's just something I like to say for those who have similar opinions to my own that favor a movie that most other folks don't. :)

1. TWOK (8/10 - the franchise's signature classic for good reason)
2. TVH (7/10 - its joyous energy and humour goes a long way)
FC (7/10 - best outing for the TNG crew, + points for Alice Krige and James Cromwell)
TMP (7/10 - gorgeous spectacle by any standard, among the truest to the spirit of TOS)
5. TUC (6/10 - a bit awkward and silly but a far better send-off for Kirk & Co. than TFF)
6. TSFS (5/10 - Kruge is the bright spot, decision to reverse Spock's death was cowardly)
GEN (5/10 - muddled, mediocre and underwhelming)
8. INS (4/10 - too dull and limited)
NEM (4/10 - good battle scenes but too many bizarre decisions & general malaise)
10. TFF (2/10 - simply unwatchable then and now, never made it all the way through)

I see what you did there. FCC, TFF. Lost your place on the keyboard, did you? ;)

I agree with your rankings almost entirely, I like your reason for enjoying TVH (though I'd put it at number one for that reason -- TWOK is excellent, but TVH never fails to make me happy). So how can you be so wrong about STID? (Don't answer. Just a jab.) :p

^ Holy typo! Thanks for the catch. :alienblush:

I'm going to put up a "My Gripes with TWOK!" thread just for you, Franklin. :D

(FWIW, on my full ranking of the franchise I have the NuTrek films tied with TSFS and GEN, so I'm not quite as down on them as it may seem. Or maybe I'm totally outrageously down on them depending on your mileage. :p At any rate they're far from the worst.)

Gotcha. I agree. It's good to have someone around who is looking through the same prism. lol

If we are ranking them, it's:

10 - The Motion Picture
9 - Insurrection
8 - First Contact
7 - The Search for Spock
6 - The Final Frontier
5- The Voyage Home
4- Generations

Now, the 3 that I liked...

3 - Nemesis
2 - The Wrath of Khan
1 - The Undiscovered Country
